One of two books of a treatise on calligraphy, from ancient pictographs to the contemporary styles used today. It has three sections of calligraphy on the front, two of which are black, and the other of which is outlined with red on a loose white piece of paper.

Rain cape woven from grass and off-white string with a strip of off-white cotton reinforcing the slightly gathered top edge and the top quarter of each side. Fringed at the bottom with two strands of twined purple plant fibre at the top of the fringe.

Hood with a rectangular shape when lying flat. The hood is composed of silk fabric with bands of black, grey and dark blue with an ikat pattern in grey-blue, and the top front of the hood is coverd in a rectangle of black silk. A tie composed of off-white silk with printed floral designs in bright red, blue, pink, purple, yellow and brown is attached near the centre of each side along the front edge.

Narrow, rectangular cloth with printed design. The design shows a detailed street scene in gray and black on white ground. There are four gray tabs on the top edge. There are two lower slits, dividing the cloth into three panels. There is a black symbol in the lower left corner.

Two bowls (parts a and b) and two smaller lacquer dishes (parts c and d), each red inside and black on the outside. Each piece is one size smaller than the largest bowl to fit inside each other. Parts a and b each have a label on the underside of the base that say Made in Japan.

Plain; oval shape; open weave; darker band below rim.

Rectangular open weave basket with bulging sides, cord and loop handle, thick upper rim, and a wooden frame at the bottom. Black, brown, and natural colour reeds; complicated open weaves. Banded patterning around the sides. Label on bottom indicates basket is made in Japan.

Rectangular carrying case (a) with a peaked roof containing two metal containers (b-c). Red and black iron bound wooden framed case with copper flap-style lids on the top. Containers are both rectangular in shape with round openings and lid at top; part b is twice the size of part c and has two lids. Also attached to top of containers are handles of bail type.

Grill composed of three curved wires supported by five legs with a barrel-shaped wooden handle extending out from a bent metal shaft that attaches to the central foot.
