Rectangular woven ikat fabric; predominantly shiny, rich purple and crimson hues. All-over geometric patterning with diamond-shaped motifs in red, orange-yellow, and blue and a dark purple ground. Bands of red along the lengthwise edges. Four thick stripes alternating with three thin bands of patterning at either end.
Decorative, multicoloured saddle blanket, rectangular in shape and consisting of two identical square panels of thick knotted pile, separated by a 14.5 cm centre strip of dark blue cotton textile. Each of these panels is embellished with ram’s head, swastika and Greek key border motifs, surrounding a large diamond-shaped lozenge containing stylized floral motifs. The motifs are predominantly red, pink, light brown and off-white on a dark blue background; the lozenge shaped pattern appears on a red background. Two corners of the rectangle are notched. There are four small rectangular spots that are devoid of pile, exposing the burlap base fabric, two on either panel, which would be under the saddle when in use. The edges of the saddle blanket are bound with a wide (3.5-4 cm) band of red cotton corduroy, cut on the bias, and the back of the blanket is lined with pieced off-white cotton canvas.
Lavishly embroidered, padded horse blanket, made of red wool textile and decorated with multi-coloured, curvilinear, naturalistic floral motifs worked in fine silk chain stitch. A rectangular space that would be located under the saddle when the blanket is in use is left plain. The horse blanket is rectangular in shape, with triangular extensions on either side of the back end. It is fully lined with multi-coloured striped cotton textile, with a layer of wool batting between the blanket and the lining. Partially edged with embroidered binding. Multi-coloured and blue fringe is applied to all edges except the front edge.
A tapestry woven bottle-shaped bag, which has brown tassels at each of the six corners. One side has a design consisting of black, brown-white, and red-brown horizontal bands. The other side has a design consisting of a diamond shape pattern that has a black cross at the centre surrounded by a yellow-brown diamond and outlined with black zig zags. Has a brown and white braided handle.
Woman’s large embroidered shawl made from greenish black cotton textile, embellished with horizontal rows of red and off-white (or pale yellow) finely embroidered geometric designs worked in silk floss. Rectangular in shape and worn over the head with the wide dimension encircling the wearer; the top two corners are turned back and tacked down to the body of the shawl, where there are large clusters of red broken threads on each side where large ornaments may have once been attached. There is a dense row of bright red, white and blue glass beads and red silk tassels that extends from the edge of one turn-back to the other, at about 32 centimetres from the top of the shawl. The piece has a densely embroidered border and the sides and bottom are edged with a narrow brass(?) chain. The textile is pieced in places.
Colourful, decorative patchwork horse blanket. Roughly square in shape, but widened at the tail end by means of narrow triangular strips sewn on each side. The central design field is a patchwork of large multi-coloured squares: some squares contain small patchwork designs, some are solid-coloured, others contain embroidered designs and some are solid-coloured squares edged with cross-stitched borders. The central design field is bordered with a row of smaller multi-coloured squares, edged in solid black. The materials used to construct the squares are embroidered cottons, ikat silks, plain cotton broadcloth and machine printed cottons. Some elements are reclaimed from other sources. It is edged with tan commercially made, long (11.5 cm), twisted cotton(?) fringe along the back and sides of the tail end. The object is backed with striped and machine printed cotton textiles, which are pieced together; there is a light layer of cotton batting between the top and the backing.
A woman's multi-coloured woven belt with repeated geometric designs of red, green, and off-white predominating. Lined and stiffened with light weight white cotton duck. Fastened with a small brass buckle attached with a leather tab while the opposite end has a narrower strip that has a deisgn consisting or a red zig zag along the middle on an off-white background surrounded by a blue dotted line at either side and outlined with a horizontal red band.
Woman’s dress with multicoloured bodice, wrist-length wide sleeves, and very full, closely gathered skirt. The bodice front is embellished with a densely embroidered panel of floral forms and tree of life motifs in orange, white and green in chain stitch on maroon ground; appliquéd over the embroidery are four large, thick discs embellished with silver thread embroidery and mirrors on black ground, two located at the centre front and two over the breasts; the bodice back is made from deep pink and black striped textile. The neck opening is trimmed with silver thread embroidery; there is a button and loop made of twisted fibre at the centre back neckline. The sleeves consist of panels of red and orange cotton textile; wide cuffs are embellished with chain stitch embroidery on black cotton textile. The front of the skirt is made of plain black cotton textile; the back of the skirt is pieced from panels of machine-printed deep pink cotton textile and deep pink plain cotton broadcloth. Where the bodice and skirt join at the high waist, there is a large, red, triangular amulet attached at centre front, embellished with silver thread embroidery and silk or rayon tassels trimmed with cowrie shells and beads. A pocket is located on the left side of the skirt. Lengths of twisted brown cord hang from the sides of the bodice. The bodice is lined with coarsely woven cotton. There is a horizontal tuck in the skirt at hip level, and a there is a large plastic button on each shoulder.
A fine rectangular linen sampler showing variations of the technique of weaving with needle and thread. A centre medallion, worked in cross stitch embroidery, contains the date of 1767 and several sets of initials from the top right clockwise: CL, S, CS, CS, LS with B, and EK in the middle. The medallion is framed with bands of plain weaving stitch in red-brown thread. Ten rectangular sample blocks of different weaving patterns surround the medallion. The patterns include plain weave, twill weave, diamond pattern, check pattern, herringbone pattern, chevron pattern, and stripe pattern worked in two colours. One sample is multi-coloured. The samples are reversible. Decorative stitchery in all four corners. The left edge is a selvage while the other edges are finished with a rolled hem.
Ankle-high reindeer fur boots with up-turned toes and multicoloured laces, made of white fur with brown fur soles. The foot opening is edged with brown skin. The six loops on each tongue are also made with brown skin. Criss-crossed through the tongue loops is a long multicoloured string. The string is made up of red, yellow-green and blue strands. On the ends there are square tassels in red, yellow and green.
