Cuff1201/10

A densely embroidered, multi-coloured cuff, consisting of a wide band (12.5 cm) joined to form a cylindrical shape. Embroidered designs in the form of large X’s and asterisk-shapes, worked in red floss outlined in light gray-green on brown cotton textile, alternate in the central design field, and there are bands of red, orange and light gray-green embroidered geometric designs at the edges. There are two large pompoms, one orange and one red, sewn to the seam where the two ends of the band are joined.

Small, flat, rectangular, embroidered bag, with beaded edges. Made by folding an embroidered piece in half and seaming two edges, leaving the fourth edge open. Three edges are trimmed with small multicoloured glass beads, while the opening is trimmed with small blue beads. The embroidery is worked in horizontal bands, separated by rows of silver braid and rickrack. The sides of the bag are virtually identical. The embroidery is backed with faded pink cotton textile.

Small embroidered and beaded wallet, made from red cotton textile, embroidered with dark yellow, orange, purple and grey geometric designs. The ‘body’ of the wallet is rectangular in shape which is intended to be folded in thirds, and one short end is extended to form a triangular flap. All edges are trimmed with bright blue and white small glass beads. The inside of the wallet has two compartments, one long and one short. The wallet is lined with red printed cotton and silk textiles.

Small, square, multi-coloured, embroidered bag, made by bringing three corners of a square embroidered textile together, leaving the fourth corner free as a flap, resulting in a flat, square envelope. The main design is a ‘hooked sun symbol,’ surrounded by a few mirrors and bands of embroidered geometric motifs and edged with couched silver threads. The embroidery is worked with multi-coloured threads in chain stitch on purple cotton broadcloth. The stitchery is backed with red cotton broadcloth.

Densely embroidered, multi-coloured, flat, square envelope style bag or purse made by folding and stitching a square piece so that three of its corners meet in the centre, leaving the fourth corner free as a flap. The intricate geometric embroidered designs are worked in silk floss on a cotton textile and are so densely worked that the background textile is almost invisible. In addition to stitchery, the piece is embellished with mirrors and red and black pompoms. The embroidery is backed with blue-green cotton textile.

Multi-coloured embroidered and beaded square textile. The embroidery is predominantly orange, with deep pink and purple accents, worked in chain stitch on green silk background; the design field is divided into four identical quadrants, separated by rows of gold metallic braid. In each corner of the textile, and in the centre, are prominent multi-coloured discs (known as ‘dress flowers’); each disc is decorated with glass beads arranged in concentric circles around a small mirror. All edges of the square are trimmed with a short, heavy fringe of white glass beads. The discs are stiffened, probably with light weight cardboard. The piece is backed with red cotton textile.

Bag or holder with a woven fabric outer surface featuring a multicoloured lozenge design and containing three pockets, the top made of off-white fabric with an embroidered blue border, the second pocket made of multicoloured floral print with a green background, and the bottom pocket of blue fabric and an appliqued multicoloured floral print on a dark red background with a three-toothed top edge. The upper pouch is lined with blue fabric.

Man’s off-white, long, silk shirt with round neck and long set-in sleeves, embellished with a panel of fine white-on-white embroidery (including some open work) in the front chest area, from the neckline to the waist. A placket opening on the right shoulder is closed with two metal snaps. Sleeves are straight with a simple hem at the wrists. Narrow yoke at the back shoulder area. A small pocket is located in the right side seam. There is a tuck at the waist. The hemline is curved, with small side slits.
