Cow Bell2878/51

Oblong shaped bell carved out of a single piece of brown wood. On one side of the bell there is a carved curvilinear line along the edge of three of the four sides of the main body of the bell. At the top of the bell, on both ends, there are two pairs of squares carved into the wood through which a rope is strung and tied. Within the bell there are two wooden clappers that protrude slightly from the bottom of the bell. These clappers are also tied to the main portion of the bell from the inside; the top of these ropes are tied through the top of the bell. The rope itself is made up of four pieces which are twisted together and then tied all together in a knot.

Patachitra Painting2878/50

Small square painting depicting three figures on a red background. There are two human-like figures on either side of a long thin figure. All three figures have faces with eyes, nose, mouth and eye brows. The eyes are shown as red circles with white eyes and a black pupil. The central, thin figure has a yellow face, the figure on the proper right has a white face, and the figure on the proper left has a black face. All three figures are wearing necklaces; the two human-like figure’s necklaces are white with red stripes while the long yellow figure’s necklace is black. The human-like figure on the proper right side has a black body while the other two figures have a green body. The border of the painting is black and yellow, and within the black border there are white dots. The painting appears to have been done on a piece of paper with black typed characters on it, almost resembling newsprint, as some of the characters show through on the front and back surfaces of the painting.

Rectangular, multi-coloured painting depicting the Hari Bansa story (the life of Krishna). The story is depicted in a series of circular and square panels showing figures in various poses and activities, organized along the borders of the painting and around a large central image. The central image depicts figures among a pattern of concentric circles and a floral motif. The outer-most border is blue.

Box2878/48

Fish-shaped brass container. The head of the fish is hinged to the body on the top and latched to the body at the bottom. On the bottom latch there is a short length of black and yellow textile rope. The head has two large half circles on either side which represent the gills. The main pattern on either side of the body is carved in such a way to look like scales. On the top of the box there are three fins, the largest being closest to the head and then getting successively smaller towards the tail. There is a hollowed out circle on the largest fin. On the bottom of the fish there are four wavy lines separated by a straight line. There are two protruding half circles are on top of the line design. Near the tail there is a design that wraps around the fish that is made up of straight lines, wavy lines, arrows and a braided line.

Box2878/47

Rectangular, footed brass box with hinged, pyramid-shaped lid. The lid of the box is decorated with several different designs including straight and wavy lined patterns. In the centre of each of the four side panels of the lid are six spirals designs, three on either side of a centre line. There are four ‘balls’ on each panel, two at the bottom corners and two on at the top. A curvilinear shaped handle is fixed at the top of the lid. The lid is hinged to the body of the box on the back side and on the front side there is a hinged, loop-shaped latch which closes over a corresponding fixed loop-shaped protrusion extending from the front of the body. The main body of the box has a open work pattern that resembles a cage. There are also three ‘balls’ along each of the four vertical edges of the box. The box rest on four small feet, one in each of the four corners.

The comb teeth make up the bottom half of the body of the fish, and the tail serves as the handle. The colour is a mixture of brown and light brown with the main body being darker brown and the tail a lighter brown. The comb curves down the length of the body.

Betel Nut Container2878/44 a-b

Rounded, copper cast container with lid. A lotus flower is carved into the lid and base with leaves around the flower. There is a raised circle that surrounds the flower and leaves and where the leaves connect to the circle there are openings cut into the metal. Around the edges of the container there are flower petals engraved into the metal and at the base there are three leaves in between each petal.

The top of the head is white and there is a black, red and yellow outline around the edge and a round red, yellow and black design with three black lines protruding from it in the centre.
