Plate with flared sides and raised foot ring. Decoration on both sides in blue; interior decoration is a central landscape of three musicians playing outside, which is surrounded by eight more landscapes outlined by double lines; floral decoration in remaining rim areas. Exterior designs are bamboo designs on white ground.

Basketry Hat1651/1

Wide-brimmed hat with woven band around bottom of crown. Band is decorated with alternating natural and red parallelograms (called “leaves of fireweed”). Interior has a leather hatband.

Long narrow carved box (part a) with lid (part b). Lid extends out from box, and has rounded, slightly beveled edges and rounded top. A long rectanglular incised line is the only decorative element on lid. Two carved and painted end pieces set between side panels and nailed. Outside long panels are also carved and painted. Designs on long panels are similar: bear at center, flanked by mirror images of salmon-trout head, U forms and split u, ovoids, and cross hatching in upper corners. One side also has long feathers represented at ends, and an ovoid on each side of the bear with hatching. One short side has side profile of bear (?) and U form. Colours are blue, red, and black.

Headdress1281/2

A large wooden headdress carved as a wolf head. The lower jaw is attached with metal nails; there is a strip of hide at the top of the head. Painted black with red eyes and upturned nostrils.

Chilkat Robe1281/1

Chilkat style robe with woven designs and fringe. The design is a three panel distributive with an ancestor face in the centre surrounded by a bird motif. The design is in yellow, blue and black on natural ground. There is a long twisted fringe on three sides.

Izumo ware ceramic tea caddy (without its lid). A small globular form on a flat spirally cut unglazed base showing fine light grey body. Thin translucent extremely shiny brown glaze, dark at the lip, with a broad splash of pale green-white flowing down the side, where the glaze stops in an even line short of the base.

Satsuma ware ceramic tea caddy (without its lid). Cylinder slightly incurved to flat unglazed string cut base displaying red-brown body. Matte, brown-flecked green glaze, of an orange peel consistency, pools to dark brown on the flat shoulder then ends short of the base in streaks and thick pools of green and yellow-white.

TeapotEdz1410 a-b

Ceramic teapot (part a) with lid (part b). Teapot has square base and grooved foot. On each of the four surfaces at bottom, there is a row of three rising blade cicada motifs. The teapot form curves outward into baluster shape. Just below the shoulder, a moulded band of k'uei dragons is interrupted by squared spout springing from a monster mouth. Opposite, there is a handle with a zoomorphic design. Rounded shoulder flattens to square collar. Fitting within is the flange of a slightly domed square lid, surmounted by a hare. On base is white paper label printed in blue with intricately entwined initials in European style: possibly "W.W.W."

Hexagonal-shaped teapot (part a) with lid (part b). Teapot tapering slightly outwards from flat base supported at intersections of adjoining planes by low feet. Unglazed body is a lustrous dark red-brown. Hexagonal spout, yoke handle rising from flat shoulders ornamented by moulded scrolling band. Sides consist of two alternating designs on moulded panels with both being variations of fish-dragons on waves. Flat lid with design of three dragons has flange fitting snugly within short hexagonal collar.

Lotus pod shape, light yellow-brown with movable seeds, supported on its side by an extremely dark caltrop nut. Other nuts in varying shades of brown are scattered on the surface in high relief. Four characters impressed beside a small hole in the side.
