The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Three horse clam shells, each with a hole in the center. Original bag has note "In association with feature #3." Field notes from 7/25/68 by T. Bodine and G. Sturdevan describe feature 3 as a hearth uncovered east of the orginal pit, after the original pit was extended. On 7/24/68 a possible burial was uncovered in the NE 1/4 of the E 1/2 of the pit, which extended into east sidewall. To identify whether the remains were human, the pit was extended by one meter, with a 20 cm. balk between. The extension was designated as 0N 15W (A), and the balk was designated 0N 15W (B). Based on a diagram in Bodine's notes showing the relative vertical positions of features, feature 3, and therefore the three shells, appears to be in the upper portion of the 70-90 cm. level, while feature 4, the burial, is depicted in the lower half of the 90-110cm. level. In discussion with Megon Noble, it was decided that the shells are associated with the hearth, not the burial. Claire Wilbert 08/05/2009
Sample from level bag 45SJ280/LB89 sent to the National Ocean Sciences AMS Facility, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for radiocarbon dating by Kristine Bovy in 2004. Sample is a fragment from a Mollusca (Mollusk) 2-sigma calibrated date AD 330-630. T. Felt 6/02/09.
Sample from level bag 45SJ280/LB145 sent to the National Ocean Sciences AMS Facility, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for radiocarbon dating by Kristine Bovy in 2004. Sample is a possibly an Acmae mitra (limpet). 2-sigma calibrated date AD 510-770. A. Frost 2/24/06.
Sample from level bag 45SJ280/LB126 sent to the National Ocean Sciences AMS Facility, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for radiocarbon dating by Kristine Bovy in 2004. Sample is a valve fragment from a Bivalvia (bivalve, likely Little Neck Clam). 2-sigma calibrated date AD 240-650. A. Frost 2/24/06. NOSAMS tested the same shell three times. Three dates were returned by testing: AD 265-495 AD 415-610 AD 435-620 These three dates are from the same shell. After the original date was obtained, NOSAMS re-dated two other fragments from the same shell with and without acid-etching.

Level Bag Bird bones were removed from this level bag on July 3, 2003 and were analyzed by University of Washington Archaeology Graduate Student, Kristine Bovy. See K. Bovy research file for more information. M. Noble 10/7/2004 Bird bones were returned and are now stored as a comparative collection. See attached database for results. C. Wilbert 08/06/2009
