Woodblock print showing a night street scene with shops and people in the Muromachi Neighbourhood, Kyoto. Colours are blue, green, purple, yellow, grey and black. The artist’s seal (知克) appears in red at the lower right corner. The title of the work appears in black Japanese characters on the right margin. Black Japanese characters in the margin of the bottom left corner are the names of the publisher and the edition. Below them are the names of the printer and the carver. The paper mount is stamped "Made in Japan".

Print called "Picture of great Japanese victory at the battle of the Port of Lushun (Port Arthur)". Shows naval scene of men in two boats, three with sabres drawn, others firing rifles off to the left. Two ships in the background. Colours are blue-green, purple, grey, black, red, green, yellow and brown. Japanese characters at the top right corner indicate that it is an illustration of the Japanese navy.

Part (a) Large cylindrical coiled work (bifurcated stitches). Parallel slat base construction (with reinforcement stitches); support for lid on inside of basket; buckskin handles wrapped with cedar root. Partial imbrication of vertical and horizontal bands in cat-tail grass and black cherry. Vertical bands are of black diamonds alternating with cat-tail grass diamonds, each on reverse ground. Horizontal bands are of 2 slat rows of checkered cat-tail grass and dark cherry bark. Base and rim have same colours alternating in single row. Bottom has red cherry bark beading. Part (b) Lid has outer three rows imbricated in cat-tail grass with dark cherry bark surrounding cat-tail grass triangle. Slat construction. Skin handle at center.

Knife and sheath (parts a-b) consisting of a wooden sheath (part b) decorated with brass tacks and wrapped with thin copper wire. A protrusion with a hole through it near the top of the sheath appears to be part of the carrying apparatus. The wooden sword handle (part a) is narrow in the middle and flares toward either end.

Burden BasketD1.440

Rectangular slightly flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches). Parallel splint base construction. Upper half of basker is fully imbricated in cat-tail grass (?), with design on upper half of basket of zig-zag pattern outlined in dark cherry bark, then cat-tail grass (?) and red cherry bark center. Alternaing intervals of red and dark cherry bark along rim. Lower half is imbricated with zig-zag pattern with flat bottoms and tops, in cat-tail grass (?). Two rows of dark cherry bark imbrication on bottom. Two rawhide loops and long knotted handle on one long side, one loop at center and long knotted handle on other long side, one long thong on each short side.
