Northern style bentwood box, bent with the outside corners opened. Nails used on one corner and to attach bottom to sides. Holes bored in ends for handles. Three sides have incised rectangle. Border around rectangle is carved with vertical lines. Inside rectangles are carved horizontal lines. Lid, part (part b) has upstanding ridge on one side.
Bentwood chest with lid (part b). Painted distributive designs on all four sides, split symmetry on long sides. Heavy black formlines with red and black details. Complex designs on front and back; one short side has wide curving black bands with red outlined ovoids, split u's and a round eye shape; cross-hatched details. Other short side has wide curving black bands, a red circle shape to right, red split u's, ovoids and crosshatched details. Two drilled holes at top of each long side. Box lashed at one corner; metal patch nailed with square nails at top. Lid is thick and carved from a single piece of wood; rounded edges.
Part (a) Box is carved on all four sides. Both ends are framed in an incised rectangle, filled with horizontal carved lines, with the exception of three triangles on one side. One long side is only the carved lines. The other long side is plain except for one vertically incised line near one corner. Part (b) Lid has upraised edge on one side.
Figure representing an animal head with emphasized eye sockets, stylized eyes with eyelids, an elongated snout with a ridge along the top, protruding domed nostrils with a hole at the centre of each, lips emphasized by a recessed line, and bared teeth with four fang-like teeth at the front that taper to a point at the bottom of each. The figure is painted black with red nostrils and teeth.
Cedar bentwood box. All four sides are made from a single cedar board. Board is scored, steamed and bent into three right angle corners. The open seam is nailed together. A separate cedar board is nailed on for the bottom. Three sides are decorated with pattern. Long side has incised rectangle with carved horizontal lines. Short sides identical, having also incised rectangle, but inside is divided almost in half, with larger side of carved horizontal lines, and the other a plain rectangle which also has horizontal lines above and below it.
Large, carved, wooden, raven hamatsa mask with a long, wide beak and large protrusion for a nose. The beak is hinged with pieces of leather nailed to either side. The beak is painted black with a red mouth and cutout nostrils. Around the nose are white, red and black U-forms. The eyes are white, outlined in black on a white, ovoid shaped background; brow is black and white with black spots. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of piece of cedar twine used to open and close the beak. The top of the head has a slight triangular shape. Pieces of cedar used to be attached along the top ridge of the beak. The underside of the mouth is painted black with a white stripe running down the middle and a circular design left unpainted. The mask is painted black, red, and white with Northwest Coast stylized designs.
Wooden dish with a carved beaver’s head at each end of oval shaped dish. The rim of the dish meets the side of the beaver’s mouths appearing as if they are chewing the wood. Positioned behind the each head is an oval shaped disc, carved in relief, representing the tail of the beaver.
Distributive design painted in black on natural wood. The left side, from the top to the bottom, has the following: three circles in a rectangle each; an eye form in an ovoid; a circle in a rectangle with a pair of circles in a split u each; an ovoid in an ovoid with a profile face facing to the right side; and three circles in a rectangle each. The right side, from the top to the bottom, has the following: an eye form in an ovoid with a pair of circles in a rectangle each; an eye form in an ovoid with a pair of circles in a rectangle each above and a front facing face with an oval in a box in between; an eye form in an ovoid with a pair of eyes and a pair of circles in a rectangle each below; and a pair of circles in a split u form each with a front facing face.
