Child's Flat FanN3.43

Flat fan made of finely-split bamboo flaring out from its attachment point to a long wooden handle painted black. Perimeter of fan is circular except for the lower edge where the handle is attached, which is straight and at right angles to handle. Fan is covered with lacquered paper with a design of three swirls converging at the centre, coloured red, green, and yellow. It has a narrow edging of black paper around the outside edge. The fan is inserted into a split in the handle, which is flat and shaped like a pointed oval where it covers the fan, which is attached with two rivets. The shape of the handle is repeated with an outline of orange paint on the fan.

Fur-lined VestEd1.329

Short vest made of red silk brocade patterned with flowers that look like chrysanthemums and apricot blossoms in shades of grey, light blue-green and green. The vest is edged with black piping and white rabbit fur, and lined with white rabbit fur. The front edges are angled in to meet at the lower centre front. The neckline is a deep V curving up into points at the centre front. It is edged with a narrow facing of white fabric woven in a geometric pattern, sewn on top of an outer facing with rounded lower corners, made of the same red fabric and with the pattern aligned. Small panels of the same fabric are inserted under the arms.

Men's outer trousers made of caribou skin with thick fur (part b). The trousers reach to just below the knee. There is a broad casing on the top with a piece of rope for a drawstring. The trousers have a fly in the front that can be closed by tying two pairs of leather straps. The legs are trimmed with a band of hairless skin sewn to the inside. Two white bands of cloth are attached to the top forming loops.

Bridegroom's Belt2503/1 b

A belt (part b) in the shape of a rounded rectangle of stiff brown leather lined on one side with green silk damask and with the outer surface of blue silk. Attached to the outer surface of the belt, there are circular and rectangular plaques of red-brown bamboo set in white metal. Two metal loops encircle the belt vertically at the front and the back with two iron studs between them on the outer surface.

Man’s jacket of shiny white fabric. The jacket is waist-length and flares slightly from the top. The centre opening has inset panels on both sides that overlap when the garment is worn. The deep V neckline is edged on the outside and inside with facings. The facing has a rounded lower corner on the left side and a square corner on the right. The V neck is finished with a white narrow white cotton collar or facing. Centered on the end of the left facing is a long, wide ribbon tie made of the same fabric, with a corresponding tie sewn to the mid-point of the jacket on the right. Thin white inner ties are sewn to the inner right inner facing and the left underarm seam. There is a centre back seam. The long sleeves are set in with a straight seam and a convex curve on the lower edge, narrowing to the wrist. The inner lining is white fabric with a pattern of small squares.
