Pink skirt with a heart and floral pattern. The skirt is made of three panels and open at the back where the left panel overlaps the right. The skirt panels are pleated and inserted into a wide band of unbleached cotton. The upper edge of the band is scalloped, with the points meeting the ends of two shoulder straps of the same material. The band opens at the back and is left unstitched. The inside of the skirt is unlined.

Under-skirt (slip) made of three panels of white rayon. The skirt panels are pleated and inserted into a band of unbleached cotton. The upper edge of the band is scalloped with the points of the scallops meeting the ends of two shoulder straps of the same material. The band opens at the front and the front seam of the skirt is left unstitched near the top.

Light brown coat with white. The centre opening has front panels that overlap to the right when tied closed with two long thick ties. The v-neck is finished with a narrower outer facing or collar of white silk squared at the ends and hand-sewn in place. The coat has a centre back seam, a pair of flared gussets under each arm, and a slightly flared panel descending from the mid-point of each outer facing so that the coat overlaps at the front when closed. There are small openings in the side seams at waist level on each side. Narrow inner ties are sewn to the right inner facing and the left underarm seam. The sleeves are inset with straight seams, and have slight convex curves at their lower edges. The inside lining is unbleached cotton.

Light brown trousers. The trousers have a wide straight waistband from which the legs angle out. There is a continuous seam on the inner edge of the legs and rounded crotch. There are second seams on the front and back, about one third of the width away from the centre seam. There is an additional seam on the front and back, angling away from the centre of the crotch to the leg seams. Both the outer fabric and lining are constructed in the same way and joined with invisible seams at the edges. The inside lining is unbleached cotton.

Skirt382/4 b

Skirt of three panels of shiny red brocade with embroidered designs. The designs are embroidered flowers with dull centres and leaves near the lower edge. The skirt is open at the back. The panels are pleated and inserted into a band of red shiny fabric woven with a floral pattern and lined with loosely woven off-white cotton. The pleats carry through to the edge of the band on both sides. The upper edge of the band is scalloped with the points of the scallops meeting two red shoulder straps. At both ends of the band are sewn narrow ties of red fabric, roughly machine stitched with white thread. The inner lining of the panels is red nylon mesh, with an interfacing of coarser white nylon mesh.

Coat1185/1

Maroon velvet surcoat heavily ornamented with gold. The woman’s coat has a fitted bodice and full, calf-length skirt. The bodice and skirt are almost entirely covered with scrollwork embroidery, worked with metallic gold cord and metallic gold thread, except for a plain panel on each side of the bodice front and at the centre of the bodice back. The bodice is sleeveless in the front; there are long, flat panels that suggest sleeves, attached at the shoulders and back arms; these are worn crossed and fastened with hook and eye at the centre back below the waist. The edges of the bodice meet at centre front; although there are eight decorative buttons on each side of the centre front opening of the bodice, there is no provision for fastening. Buttons are made of metallic gold thread wrapped around a wooden core, trimmed with small coral beads. Smaller buttons at the bottom edge of "sleeves." There are pockets on each side of the skirt, just below the waist. All edges are bound with patterned silver ribbon and five rows of heavy gold cord. The garment, which is very stiff and heavy, is entirely interlined with animal skin, which supports the weight of the metallic embroidery. Bodice and skirt are lined with orange cotton damask; sleeves are lined with striped black, white and yellow cotton broadcloth.

Woman's black hat with flat brim and cylindrical crown with flat top. The crown and the top of the brim are covered in silk(?) fur-like fabric. Three rows of metallic gold cord around the crown; two gold tassels at centre back. Underside of brim is encrusted with gold thread embroidery and black braid on silk fabric. Long, wide black silk ribbons, are attached one on each side of the underside of the hat, and they attach together near the top with hooks and eyes. Lined with light orange fabric.
