Dagger, or knife and sheath (part b). Iron blade with a dark wooden handle. The sheath is composed of hippopotamus and crocodile skin and has a stamped geometric design as well as braided trim, and a loop handle attached at the top.
Black and gold hat. Black velvet underlay stiffened with cardboard that has wood quatrefoil flowers in gold gilt glued to the exterior. Two side pieces protrude, on an angle, from the band of the hat.
Headdress in the form of a bird's head and neck composed of a wooden neck and head covered with leather and a hornbill beak attached to the head. Eyes are indicated by metal nails with rounded heads.
Traditional Hausa carved design. Natural colour with grey lines, possibly in pencil, and dusted with white powder (?). Part (a), base has five carved parallel lines with scallop design above, all around near top. Two deeply carved lines near base, and base carved into nine quadrants, cross hatched on four, lines in the corners, and central square has diamond and lines carved within. Lid, part (b), has scallop design near rim, two parallel lines, and band of short parallel diagonal lines with horizontal cuts, two parallel lines, and cut-out interwoven oval shapes, with carved circles. Large center circle with four carved concentric rings and a cut-out center.
Bag composed of a pouch that fits into a cover. The pouch has three leather tassels at the bottom and a front flap, and it has a leather strap attached at the top corners that feeds through the top corners of the cover. The leather is dyed red and green and painted with linear designs in black ink.
Bag composed of two pockets with rounded sides and a flat top. Two pieces of leather extend up beyond the top of the bag to form the base for a handle of twined leather. The leather is dyed red and painted with black carbon ink in geometric patterns. There are four rings of leather in red, green and yellow securing the bases of the handle.
Sickle with a curved blade that attaches to the rough wooden handle with a ferrule and secured via a spike bent into a hole in the handle. The handle is still covered in bark in some areas, and is roughly circular in cross-section.
Jack-knife with a forged blade that has a straight cutting edge and a tip that tapers at an angle. The blade is hinged to the wooden handle, which is oval in cross-section, with a metal ferrule.
A long thin brown fabric piece that has a main design consisting of red flannel with white cowrie shell rosettes and white goat fur trim with leopard skin trim. The ties are made of cotton.
Large gourd bowl with thick edges and a piece of wood inserted on top of which there are two holes. In the center are "piano strings" consisting of eight strips of metal.
