Fragment; design could be a part of the "she who watches" motif
Stone mortar. Decorated with geometric lines (chevrons) along outside rim of mortar.* Located in Anthropology Teaching Collection, Denny Hall, by Larkin Hood during inventory of Teaching supplies. On 10/13/98, Ms. Hood returned this mortar to the Burke Museum. The mortar appears to have been used for UW teaching purposes, as evidenced by corn residue lodged into the crevices in the bowl of the mortar. Incised; carved with line designs.
One end is a maul; the other end has a partial depression; the rest is gone. Red/Black. The black could be caused by thermal alteration.
Only 3/4 of the object exists. Two pieces glued together. Red. What could be feet and tail are carved/ground in relief into the outside surface.
