Flag attached to a curved bamboo staff (part b). The flag has bright pink characters on purple ground, with a wide mauve border. The back is unlined. The bamboo staff terminates in a gold head with pale green fringe at the top.

Ancestor MaskIe495

Carved wooden, oval shaped mask representing a face. The top of the head is inlaid with two different types of shells. The forehead is elongated with a ridge down the middle and recessed eyes inlaid with cowrie shells. The nose is protruding and has a section of a boar tusk in each nostril. The mouth is partly open exposing carved teeth. Bundles of sennit fibre line the bottom edge. The mask is painted with orange, black and white pigment. The back is undecorated.

Shoes984/8 a-b

Pair of rigid shoes with thick stiff soles of natural brown leather studded with iron hobnails at the heels and toes, and stitches along the edges. Parallel lines are scored along the length of the soles. Shoes have low sides, but are high at the back of the heels and have upturned toes. There is narrow white leather piping along the edges, and the white leather extended down inside the heel. The sides of the shoes are covered with pink silk, over which are applied pieces of light green silk at the toe and heel. Small fragments of dark pink decorative pieces remain at the toes and heels. There are narrow bands of darker green silk at the top and bottom of the sides, with a row of heavy white stitches along the lower band. The shoes are white inside, and the soles are lines with loose cotton batting.

Gray trousers. The trousers have a wide, straight waistband from which the legs angle out. The outer layer is folded in at the top of the waistband. There is a continuous seam on the inner edge of the legs and rounded crotch. There are second seams on the front and back, about one third of the width away from the centre seam. There is an additional seam on the front and back, angling away from the centre of the crotch to the leg seams. The inner edge of the trousers is rounded in a convex curve, narrowing to the ankle. The inside lining is pale blue fabric.

Boy's VestEd1.333

Vest fastening in the centre front with four silver coloured buttons, made of plum coloured silk satin with a pattern of flowers. On the front there is an inset pocket with an outside facing at each side, and on the left side above the pocket is a third, smaller pocket. The vest is lined with white fabric woven in an overall pattern of small leaves with a bolder pattern of larger leaves. Each silver button has a Chinese character on an embossed background. There is a double line of machine stitching along the lower edge, which curves downward to the centre front.
