Birds of SummerNa1560

Print depicting one large and three small birds in flight. The top left-hand bird holds three leaves in its beak, and two others hold one leaf each in their beaks. Below image is written, "30/50 Birds of Summer Pitseolak 1964." The Canadian Eskimo Arts Council stamp of approval is blind embossed in the lower right-hand corner.

Curved silver spoon with an oval bowl and a tapering handle with a profile bird-head finial. Features of bird-head extend out from the handle with the crest and brow band on one side and a jaw line below. Iris and brow band are slightly raised. Engraving includes details on bird's head, including a split u on the crest, an ovoid eye, and mouth and lines indicating the nostril and feathers. Angled ovoid in ovoid on the neck (handle shaft) u-shapes, split u's, and s-curves to large angled ovoid where handle widens to the spoon of the bowl. Wing and tail-like appendages on either side of the ovoid. 'Ketchikan' is engraved in a curve in the spoon bowl.

Figure: large u shaped ear has a tapered downward extension, tip melds with body; large eye ovoid has ovoid pupil in pointed eyelid lines; curved open beak, back of lower mandible rests on body; body has a partial profile humanoid face with a large curled nostril attached to the upper lip band above large square teeth; split u forms in front of face and on lower left; bent leg next to body has a two-clawed foot; arm extension from base of u form in front of face terminates in a hand with an outward facing palm, bent elongated thumb touches shoulder, ovoid in palm, u form below.
