Necklace of beads, snakes and cross. 96 cylindrical red glass beads and 91 smaller round flat white beads alternate in a pattern. 4 double snake and 4 single snake pendants alternate between the beads on the lower half of the necklace. The double snakes cross over at two points. All snakes are attached to bead strand by rings through the mouth. They are etched with cross pattern along their length. A Lorraine cross with cloverleaf terminals hangs from the centre point. A sunburst is engraved in the centre of the top bar. Curvilinear marks on vertical and lower horizontal bar. Maker’s mark JA on snakes and AB in a circle on lower bar of cross.

Cup-shaped brass gong (part a) with a rounded bottom and two dragons and a crest design in slight relief around the top. Gong rests in a raised, five-legged wooden stand (parts b and c); stand is lacquered in red and gold. A stuffed ring-shaped cushion of brown and taupe-coloured, floral pattered fabric rests inside the top section of the stand (part c). Part d is a cylindrical hide-covered beater with a red lacquered wooden handle.

Spear (a) with sheath (b). Spear (a) has a long steel lanceolate-shaped blade, shiny with some tarnish and etched lines echoing its shape. Blade is connected to a shaft by a corroded metal fitting. The shaft appears to be a broom handle wrapped with bark. At one end the bark has uncoiled. The black sheath (b) is two pieces of wood held together by five bands of metal wrapped and beaten together. Nose and eye shapes are incised into the wood to achieve a bird-like face. The narrow end is carved with a geometric design.

Needle CaseEe62

An ornamental metal disc welded in four places to attach two bars to the back. From the lower bar a small rectangular box, 6.5 cm. by 2.5 cm., is hung by a cloth strip. The box has loops at the bottom and from these, there are hung three strips of red cotton, one of which has been doubled the full length. These are strung with cowrie shells and the cloth is knotted at the ends.

Knife (a) with sheath (b) in which a small blade (c) is inserted. Knife has a curved blade etched (?) on one side with series of irregular, dark, patch-like shapes. The blade passes through a silver-coloured steel (?) sheath, with the tang (two-holed) inserted into the wooden handle, passing through a gold lacquered wooden guard. Each side of the handle is inlaid with an ivory plaque carved with a dragon figure; lotus carved ivory at end . Sheath (b) of wood with gold lacquer bamboo leaf design, inlaid with insects and plants of ivory, mother-of-pearl, and stones, with ivory end; wood badly split, inlays crudely repaired. Small blade, curved, is missing handle; stained red.
