Collapsible fan with 18 inner ribs made of ivory and two ivory ribs on the outside. The outermost ribs are carved with a floral design. One side is covered in white silk, which has been stiffened and has a light bown paper edge. The silk is painted with a design of cranes flying over a marsh, in grey, white, red, yellow and blue/green. The ends of the ribs are fastened with a u-shaped brass loop to which is knotted a knotted grey silk cord ending in a tassel.

Cylindrical beater with light brown handle decorated with horizontal brown bands and shaped into four phalanges at one end that are separated by three grooves in which are three concentric free-moving concentric wooden rings. Attached to the end phalange is a flattened dark brown sphere with deep horizontal groove with four slightly translucent cream-white material insets (pillars), incised linear horizontal lines and leaf design around circumference. Slightly translucent cream-white material carved disk inset at end surrounded by five small inlaid slightly translucent cream-white material disks.

Gold, human face mask with closed eyes and smiling mouth; elongated ear lobes; dark green hair with two top knots. Adhesive label and paper label inside, each with an inscription.

Top of lid and sides of base are decorated with a perforated quatrefoil design. Punched dots incised on box bottom 'India 3939'. Small label on lid marked '3-43' in ink. Red worn fabric glued to inside box bottom.

Folding fan with seventeen inner ribs and two carved parent ribs of ivory. Covered on one side with white silk, edge bound with white paper with painted in design of wisteria and birds in green, brown and purple; some purple blooms are also embroidered. Silver coloured metal rivet with u-shaped loop.
