Lunch BasketA1839

Rectangular basket with simple interlocking coiled work, bifurcated stitches, parallel slat lid and base construction with graduated reinforcement stitches and 'twilled' effect on lid. Basket also has a two coiled handles and is decorated with beading. The lid has beading in black-dyed cherry bark in a 2:1 ratio along the circumference of the lid. The body has cat-tail grass at the top (one row per slat, in a 2:2 ratio). Three other slats have beaded decoration (3 rows per slat) in black and in red cherry bark in a 2:2 ratio creating a checkerboard pattern. Lid is attached to basket with thong hinges.

Round tray composed of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches), watch-spring base construction, and sides consisting of five slat rows. Decorated with partial imbrication in a continuous checkered diamond design alternating in red bark, grass, and black bark, and grass. Four smaller diamond shapes near center in black, grass and red bark. Triangular shaped figures (half diamonds) alternating in black bark, grass, and red bark and grass, around exterior sides.

Simple brown and natural-coloured coiled work basket with bifurcated stitches and watch-spring base construction. The base has a hole in the centre. Basket also has a flange and a high rim. Decorated with partial imbrication. Double vertical design similar to that of an hour glass shape in red cherry filled with bullrush, separated vertically by a row of undecorated cedar. Red triangular design on rim filled in by bullrush staggered with other design.

Basket (part a) and lid (part b) with simple coiled work, bifurcated stitches, and parallel slat base construction. Slat flange on the basket (part a) with two overcast loop handles. Partially imbricated with a foot of one slat. Design in black/bullrush/red alternating and staggered with the same motif in red/bullrush/black.The foot is beaded in red. Double-stitch fillers on the lid (part b), while the side of the lid has discrete checkered areas alternating in black and red. Button handle on the lid.

Basket with four sides that taper towards the base. Constructed of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with a parallel slat base (single straight reinforcement stitches) and an overcast rim and buckskin thongs. The imbricated design is a partial step pattern staggered vertically in red with black on the top and bottom, or black with red on top and bottom, in varying lengths. There are four horizontal rows of these elements. The rim is beaded in black.

Round, brown tray of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with watch-spring construction. Partial imbrication. The sides are three splint rows with a wrapped border. Interior of the basket has three concentric divisions and an inner row of grass and then two rows of alternating black cherry bark and grass repeated. Between these, there are nine diagonal lines in red, then nine shapes in red, then twenty "X" shapes in red with grass inside.

The flower has triangular shapes at the end of each of the eight petals along the rim, in red cherry bark / cat-tail grass/ black-dyed bark. Lid consists of simple coiled work with bifurcated stitches, and watch-spring coil construction, and also has a flange. Colour: tan.
