Part (a) Coiled circular urn shaped basket (with bifurcated stitches) with lid part (b). Basket has two-coil foot with cherry bark beading on bottom row. Imbricated design of criss-crossing diagonal bands forming connected diamonds, in rows of dark cherry bark, bear grass, and red cherry bark. Imbrication on round lid has same rows of colour in three peaks. Coiled string for handle at center. Flange under lip of lid.

Two sided oblong coiled basket with foot. Watch spring base construction. Imbricated design of large dark cherry bark crosses, filled-in with bear grass except center. Three on each side. Foot is beaded with red and black cherry bark. Perforations along rim indicate basket may have had a double looped border.

Two handled basket with simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches). Decorated with partial imbrication using red and black cherry bark and tule reed. Parallel slat base construction on the coil worked handles. Design consists of a pattern of a spear-like floral motif radiating from a central stem with three sets of three on each long side and two sets of three on each short end.

Work basket formed by coiled weaving with a slat bottom and a two-row coil foot at base. The foot is imbricated with red and black cherry bark and off-white grass. Geometrical cross and diamond designs are imbricated on the sides of the basket. One three-coil carrying handle at one of the narrower ends.

Part (a) Small coiled cedar root cup (bifurcated stitches) and saucer, part (b). Cup imbricated and beaded with three alternating rows of checkerboard, upside down triangle motif in dark cherry bark. Top row of beading near rim. Handle on cup at one time. Saucer has row of beading at rim in dark cherry bark and three alternating rows of crosses also in dark cherry bark.

Coiled cedar root basketry cradle (part a) with slat foundation and sides. Cradle is rounded at the higher, wider proximal end and is tapered and narrow at the distal end. Fully beaded overcast rim. Remainder of the cradle is plain on the inside and decorated with beading and imbrication on the outside. Rim pattern has mainly canary grass with several repeats of alternating cherry bark and grass. There are seven side coiled rows. First two rows repeat a pattern of closely spaced grass chevrons alternating with wider spaced red or dark brown cherry bark chevrons. Rows three and four repeat above pattern in alternating areas. Rows five and six feature three vertical red cherry bark lines alternating with a darker diamond or x-shaped pattern. Row seven is undecorated. No foot. Plain coiled bottom. Tumpline or carrying strap (part b) with wool wefts and multiple element warps is weft-faced plain weave in a light white-brown and red zigzag pattern. On each end of the strap, there is a machine-stitched, hide backed strip of plaid material which has a shell button on the strap end and a button hole at the other. Each end is buttoned over a strip of hide which is tied on each side of the cradle just below the rim with small strips of hide. There is a small piece of cordage tied to one side.

Fishing creel compoased of coiled cedar root weaving. The basket has an irregular rectangular base, a flat back, three sides that have shoulders narrowing and slanting diagonally up to the top back over a trapezoidal lid with a trapezoidal hole at the centre. Five red and black cherry bark imbricated diamonds decorate three sides. Two hide loops sewn onto two back corners. Lid attached to back with two hide strips. Four imbricated diamond shapes decorate the lid.

Rectangular, flared, coiled root basket (bifurcated stitches). Elongated watch-spring construction. Imbricated rows of alternating red and dark cherry bark and grass imbrication, however the grass is mostly broken away from the surface. Cotton string attached to rim of one corner, jute cord attached to rim of 3 other corners. Remnants of hide loops attached to long sides of basket.

Fishing creel basket (a) with lid (b). The basket is constructed of coil weaving with an irregular curved rectangular base, concave back and convex sides creating protruding shoulder in lower third of basket narrowing to rounded rectangular mouth. Decorated with a design in red and black cherry bark and off-white bear grass imbrication forming a series of diamonds. Has a hide strap attached to the two back corners. The lid is attached to the basket with two hide ties and is imbricated with a repeated triangle design fanning out from the central hole.

Basketry LidNd576

Coiled rectangular lid. Handle in centre of lid has string foundation and was wrapped with grass. Grass is partly detached from foundation. Rim of lid has cedar bark foundation with wrapped grass intertwined. Only one corner has rim decoration, remainder has broken off. Top of lid has red and black cherry bark and grass imbrication in arrowhead geometrical design.
