A flat fan made of finely-split bamboo flaring out from its attachment point to a long wood handle painted black. Perimeter of fan is circular except for the lower edge where the handle is attached which is straight and at right angles to the handle. Fan is covered with lacquered paper that has a design of three swirls converging at the centre coloured red, green, and yellow. It has a narrow edging of black paper. The fan is inserted into a split in the handle which is flat and lozenge-shaped where it covers the fan which is attached with two rivets. The shape of the handle is repeated with an outline of orange paint on the fan.
A closing fan with twenty-six inner ribs of split bamboo varnished dark brown on the base of each side and two bamboo parent ribs of natural colour each set into a piece of dark rosewood through which passes a brass rivet. Abstract design painted in light brown on the parent ribs. One side of the fan is covered with light brown paper, unpainted. To the ring on the rivet, there is attached a knotted purple silk cord, 23 cm. long, on which there is threaded a carnelian carving of a monkey holding a peach (missing as of 2006). Below the monkey, there hangs a flat knotted tassel of purple silk bound with multi-coloured thread.
Four-piece, three-tiered, round cake basket in black lacquered wicker work with gold, swirl, line and floral designs. Part a: base with stand-up handle; four orange/red painted sections; prominent wicker work in two horizontal sets divided by a black band. Handle of bamboo slats with red painted bands at corners; curved, forged metal handle at top attached with two curved metal strips. Part b: centre tray with middle orange/red section with prominent wicker work. Part c: top tray with gold painted twining through centre of wicker work. Part d: lid; top and sides made of orange/red wicker work; top centre features a back section with scalloped edges and a faint floral design painted in gold.
Basket (a) with removable trays (b) and lid (c); black lacquered wicker work with faint gold/orange floral designs. Part a: the basket's base with a stand-up handle attached at the sides; black except for four red, painted side sections where underlying wicker work is prominent. Part b: centre tray, four centre sections on sides painted red, open wicker work with a gold line running through it. Part c: convex lid, black with wicker work painted red; centre black section, scalloped edge with six extensions, gold/orange painted design of man with leg on left pulled back, standing under tree. The numeral 39 is painted in gold on the underside of each section.
Double edged straight steel sword (a) with sharp triangular point and cast copper alloy decorations at hilt and end; handle is wood carved in straight longitudinal lines. 8 Chinese characters on one side of sword and 4 on the other. Scabbard (b) is green and black mottled lacquered wood with cast metal decorations at both ends, and 3 raised bands along body. All metal shows central symbol surrounded by floral design, rounded and/or scalloped at edges. Metal is patinated, black with green spots at hilt. Lacquer is worn, and chipped. Sword coated from both edges in dried brown liquid; rust at hilt.
A wood club with a paddle-like shape that has slightly rounded sides which have a ridge starting from the handle end tapering downward to the rounded paddle end. Has a hole at the centre of the circular handle. Wood is brown and dark brown with a horizontal line pattern, a vertical wavy pattern, and a shiny finish.
Bowl-shaped woven basket with lacquered surface. The abstract design has been incised into the lacquer to reveal the red undercoat underneath the black topcoat of lacquer.
The fan is divided into four colourful geometric panels meeting in the centre; the top panel is red, the two side panels are green and the bottom panel is orange. In the orange panel surrounding where the handle attaches to the fan, there is a stylized floral designs in black. The wooden handle is also black.
Square basket (a) and lid (b) with rounded tops and bottoms; actually two baskets--one fitting over other--called a "telescope basket." Sides lacquered in various shades of brown and natural. Band of alternating rows of dark brown and natural around the centre.
Rectangular shape box with canted corners. Decorated with flowers bamboo, and a human figure in mother of pearl, on black ground. Bail handles at each end. The interior is red.
