Cantonese Opera Lamp2701/19

An oil lamp made of low-fired ceramic with a roughly applied shiny green glaze over a buff-coloured body, which shows on the base. The top of the lamp is bowl-shaped, placed on a cylinder that flares towards the bottom, which is in the shape of a low saucer. There is a decorative ring slightly more than halfway up the cylinder.

One-wick lamp with with an ovoid shape and made from pinkish clay with traces of white slip. The shoulder of the lamp is decorated with running vine branches and bunches of grapes in bas-relief. There is a larger filling hole at the centre of the body, which is surrounded by two raised rings, and a smaller wick hole at the narrow end.

Two-wick lamp with orange-brown slip. Circular basin-shaped body with an incised scallop design on the shoulder set off by a rim of four raised bands. Each nozzle is decorated with volute reliefs, the outer volutes in moulded horses' heads.
