Triangular flag of turquoise damask with borders of metallic braid and jagged, flame-shaped orange damask. Double, curved bamboo staffs for each flag rise from a golden handle with a pink fringe. Flags sit just above the handle. Pink casing for staff.

Cantonese Opera ShoesN1.756 a-c

Pair of shoes and one tie. Leather sole, raised wooden heel (2" h.) painted green. Uppers: metallic thread and twisted cord braid appliqued 4 1/2" either side of toe, 1 1/4" deep, enclosing woven raffia applique. Colours: deep pink, gold, and black. Braid appliqued around top of uppers, and twisted and appliqued down centre of toe. Colours: pale green and beige. At heel: black cotton extension, appliqued 4 3/4" above uppers 4 3/4" w. All on black ground. Black cotton loop on either side, attached to uppers where extension joins. Cotton lining. Padded cotton insole. Separate red tie (part c). (Other tie is missing.)

Set of five spindles, each a long segment of wood tapered at the ends with a brown finish. Part b: painted with a black and off-white geometric design at the centre and has light brown string wound around one end; part c: has a series of thin bands incised into the wood towards one end; part d: has light brown thread wound around the centre; part e: has a series of alternating off-white and reddish-brown bands at the centre; part f: has light brown yarn and red string wound around it; part g: a coil of light brown thread that tapers at the ends.

Mask with cedar bark fringe at top and a bundle of cedar bark at either side, a protruding brow and hooknose, crescent-shaped eye holes, and an open mouth with protruding lips. A bunch of white and grey feathers is bound to a wooden stick (part b) with blue thread and adhesive fabric tape, and fits into a hole in the top of the mask. The mask is painted white with heavy black eyebrows, black pupils and eyelids, red nostrils and lips, and a curved black line on both sides that accentuates the cheeks. A piece of wood is attached across the back at the top. Two holes either side of the mouth near the edge of the mask.

Mask with overall ovoid shape, hooked nose, circular eye holes, and an open smiling mouth. The mask is painted white with black eyebrows, green around the eyes with blue and black eyes, red lips, a black moustache in two parts with curled ends, a black chin, and orange curvilinear and scalloped designs on the cheeks. An off-white string is strung through the holes at the sides of the mask.

Headdress in three parts representing a bee and two sisiutl figures. The frontmost face represents a bee figure with a grey face that has a protruding yellow nose with red and grey nostrils and several holes in the top of the nose, a red mouth with black lines above the upper lip, large circular black eyes, black eyebrows, black curving lines defining the cheeks, and two protruding, curled ears. Attached either side of the face are two sisiutl figures depicted in profile, each with a culred nose, protruding tongue, curled ear, and painted fabric cut into three points attached at the neck. They are joined by a wooden support. A length of cord is threaded through two holes in the support and a hole in the top of the front figure's head. Painted in black, red, yellow and green on grey ground.
