Carved pestle. (and painted crossed out) Remarks: Might also be used as war club.* Pestle is basically cylindrical and evenly ground on all sides. Grinding end is chipped and has a yellow substance adhering to it. Opposite end is zoomorphic with two ears, two eyes, and a nose. Subject unknown (6/95). *Information is from the original accession ledger.
One end is a maul; the other end has a partial depression; the rest is gone. Red/Black. The black could be caused by thermal alteration.
Only 3/4 of the object exists. Two pieces glued together. Red. What could be feet and tail are carved/ground in relief into the outside surface.
Medium stone mortar.* Stone mortar returned from Grant County Public Utility District, Wanapum Dam Heritage Center on January 25, 1995. These materials were originally sent to Grant County PUD for future exchange (see Borrower's Agreement - 1966), but the exchange papers were never drawn up. Since this material was only loaned, not deaccessioned, the Grant County PUD returned it to the Burke. (L. Phillips, 1/26/95). Flat rounded cobble with one angular fracture scar. Two major surfaces have pitted, slightly depressed areas. Glued to piece W1/4/373-A.
Stone hammer.* Polished and pecked, indented on one end. (6/95). *Information is from the original accession ledger.
Grey. Test Trench 4, Square 1 Although this object is catalogued as 1966-100, it appears that it is actually a part of accession 1966-86 because of the numbering system, which is characteristic of that accession and not of accession 1966-100. A. Frost 5/11/2005.
