Pair of mittens (part a-b) made of caribou skin with the fur on. One mitten is slightly larger (part a) than the other (part b). The mittens are each made of three pieces of fur from the leg skins of the caribou. One piece forms the back of the mitten, a second piece forms the upper palm and inside of the thumb while the third piece forms the lower palm and other half of the thumb. Another piece of white caribou fur is added to form the cuffs. The wrist cuffs are short and attached with the hair to the inside and folded over so the hair also shows on the outside. The mittens are kept together with a black cord through the cuffs.

Women’s outer coat, or parka, of caribou fur with a large elongated hood. The coat has a thin rectangular front flap and a large rectangular back flap. The coat is waist length and has broad angular shoulders. The back of the coat is slightly enlarged through the insertion of a piece of fur. On the front, two white angular chest panels are inserted. The hood, hem and front of sleeves are trimmed with white fur. The form of the backtail and front of the coat are repeated through inserts of small bands of white fur. Bands of white fur are also inserted in the lower part of the front of the sleeves and across the hood. Two elongated triangular pieces of white fur are inserted on the top part of the back of the coat. On either side of these a caribou ear with white fur tassels is attached. Paired fringes are attached to the sides of the hood and along the hem. A narrow tape of fabric is sewn to the inside of the hem.

Men’s outer coat, or parka, of caribou fur. The coat is waist length, has a close fitting pointed hood and a long rectangular backtail. The hood and the hem are trimmed with a band of white caribou fur. There is a white band of fur on the upper part of the sleeves. Paired white fur fringes are attached below the white bands on the sleeves and around the backtail. A small piece of white fur is inserted on the back between the shoulders. A tape of depilated skin is sewn on the inside along the tail.

Pair of women’s inner leggings (part a-b) of caribou skin with the fur on the inside. The leggings have a close fit for the foot and ankle and expand like a funnel reaching above the knee at the back of the leg and tapering up on the front to form a loop that can be attached to the trousers belt. A narrow tape of depilated skin is sewn along the edge on the skin side.

Pair of mittens made of caribou skin with thick fur. Each mitten is made of four pieces of skin. One piece forms the back of the mitten, a second piece forms the top of the palm and inside of the thumb. The third piece forms the base of the palm and other side of the thumb. Another piece is attached as cuffs around the wrists. Each mitten has a strip of white caribou fur attached to the wrist; these in turn are tied to each other. The pieces that form the cuffs are attached with the skin to the outside and folded so that the fur shows on the outside as well. The cuffs are not very long, just covering the wrists. The hair on the inside of the right hand thumb (part a) is removed. A black cord is attached to the cuff of the left hand mitten.

Men’s inner coat, or parka, of caribou skin with the fur on the inside. The coat has a close fitting pointed hood, rounded shoulders. It is knee length in the front and reaches well below the knees in the back. The hood is trimmed with a band of white fur.

Boy’s inner coat, or parka, of caribou skin with the fur to the inside (Note: photo shows inner and outer coats together). The coat has a rounded close fitting hood; the crown is slightly pointed. The coat is thigh length and has a slit in the middle of the front. The hood opening is trimmed with a white band of fur.

Pair of boots made of brown and white caribou skin with the fur on, with soles made of dehaired seal skin. The soles are boat-like with vertical crimps. Between the sole and upper section of the foot a red-brown dyed narrow strip of dehaired skin is inserted all around. The leg section consists of white caribou fur with vertical brown caribou panels on either side of the leg. The front of the leg section and the vamp are made out of a single piece of fur. The top of the boots are lined with horizontal bands of white caribou fur and brown dyed dehaired skin. The band of brown skin is decorated with circular and semi-circular motifs of yellow-white cotton thread. The tops of the boots have a casing of brown dehaired skin through which a cotton cord is strung. On either side of the boots a long strip of dehaired caribou skin is attached into the seam of the sole.
