Sled CarvingNa678 a-f

Dog sled carving (part a) with five dogs (parts b-f). Sled made of two long runners across which are tied eight crosspieces with thread pulled through holes on runners. Linen fabric supports a seal covered by a sealskin, all bound to sled by leather strips. Leather harness secures dogs, all with straight legs and dark eyes, to the sled.

Shaped as a woman; holes for bowl and stem identify it as a pipe. She is seated with knees drawn up, hands bound behind her back, and long hair fastened to her hands, pulling her head back. Ribs, trachea, and collarbone are clearly delineated. An otter is carved on her stomach.

Ellipsoid, hollow, bronze incense burner on single ring ellipsoid foot. On base is rectangle enclosing square seal-type characters. Sides unadorned below midsection. Raised band around perimeter; flat projections shaped like half-ellipses on each side. Mounted on top is a hinge; half the top is cut free and hinged so it can be inverted; on underside of this is a spike 2.3 cm. long. Top and projections inlaid with strips of lighter metal in cloud patterns. Bronze has dark brown patina.

Round, flat, brass plate with flat base and straight flared sides 2.4 cm high. Two concentric circles indented near centre of inner surface. Outer surface shiny; inner surface has dull patina; turning marks are visible.

Very shallow round brass bowl with flat base and straight, slightly flared sides. Single circle indented on inner surface at bottom, about 1.5cm. from edge. Outer surface shiny ; inner surface has rather dull patina. 4 faint characters are scratched on inside rear rim.

Distorted brown sphere (part a) open at one end with a cylindrical light wood stopper (part b). Sphere (part a) has a geometric design in horizontal bands that are incised around the upper half of the outer surface. The inside is hollowed out and filled with white powdered lime? The stopper (part b) has an incised band around the upper edge. It is 9 centimetres in diameter and 2.7 centimetres long.

Stringed Musical InstrumentEdz1367 a-b

Hexagonal wooden cylinder (cracked along one edge) indented in the middle with three raised horizontal wooden bands around open end; carved star-shaped floral wooden inset in open end; taut snakeskin cover on opposite end; rounded straight wooden stem with curved handle, decorated with two horizontal light wooden inlaid bands; two fluted wooden pegs, decorated with white/brown and light yellow/brown horizontal bands at one end. The pegs are attached at right angles to rectangular part of stem through two holes. There are two strings threaded through holes and wound around ends of pegs, and attached to pegs on side of sound box. Straight bow (b), curved at ends and threaded with gut, inserted under string.
