TextileN2.22

Long, rectangular textile; damask fabric with a cream background; red and orange band of rickshaws in-between a row of cream flowers surrounded by a red lozenge border. The design repeats itself. There is a thin, light blue ribbon that runs horizontally through a middle section of the textile along with a cardboard tag that has calligraphy on it and blue tassels attached; the top has a blue calligraphy stamp on it.

Print depicting a man entering a building. There are men and women in the building. A large palm plant is in the foreground of the print. Print of Akasaka Station (#36). This is one of a series of reproductions of the "53 Post Stations on the Tokaido Hwy." from Nihonbashi to Kyoto (Hoei-do edition). Print is matted on a piece of white-yellow paper and has an additional cover page that folds over the print. A printed inscription on the cover page reads: "AKASAKA The sun has set. The inn is found. After taking a bath, a guest has a drink. A masseur comes. In the next room, service girls hastily arrange their [sic] toilet. This is really a scene from "Hizakurige." There are Japanese characters at the top, bottom, and side of the printed message.

Print depicting people bowing near a building. Three of the people stand near a donkey. One woman stands near a building. A older man approaches the scene as he walks on a bridge. There are roof tops in the background, as well as trees and sky. Depicting the Totsuka Station (#5). This is one of a series of reproductions of the "53 Post Stations on the Tokaido Hwy" from Nihonbashi to Kyoto (Hoei-do edition). The print is matted on a piece of yellow-white paper and has a cover page that flips over the print. The cover page has a printed inscription that reads: " TOTSUKA Vicinity of the present Ofuna Station. The sigh post reads "Hidari Kamakura-machi" (Left, the Kamakura road). It seems to indicate the road to Zushi and Kamakura, along which one sees the famous Kanazawa Hakkei (Eight Views of Kanazawa)." There are Japanese characters on the top, side, and bottom of the printed message.

However we see that the style of houses has changed from Yedo to Kansai style." There are Japanese characters at the top, bottom, and side of the printed message.

Together show a scene of three figures, with a large screen in the background. This part shows a woman sitting on the floor with her head bent slightly toward the floor. Her left arm is extended; she holds a flower with a bell in her left hand. She is wearing a kimono with a black star-shaped print on a blue, beige, and grey striped pattern. In the lower right corner there is a circular red seal, an oval black seal, black characters, and a vertically rectangular black seal. The print is made of two vertically rectangular pieces, creating a horizontally rectangular image overall.

This is one of a series of reproductions of the "53 Post Stations on the Tokaido Hwy," from Nihonbashi to Kyoto (Hoei-do edition). Print is matted on a piece of white-yellow paper and has an additional cover page that folds over the print. A printed inscription on the cover page reads: “ OKAZAKI The castle of the Tokugawas at Okazaki. This is the scene of the famous meeting between Toyotomi Hideyoshi, in his boyhood, and Hachisuga Koroku. Tradition says that Hideyoshi hid under straw-matting on the bridge waiting for some great person worthy to be his master. Hachisuga, a wandering Samaurai, passed and kicked him. After a tussle, Hideyoshi became his follower." There are Japanese characters at the top, bottom, and side of the printed message.
