Gorget1590/276

Very deep crescent-shaped gorget with rolled edge. In the centre is an engraved oval-shaped cartouche containing three fleur-de-lys. To either side of the oval is a branch with leaves and berries, and above a crown. Hanging from bottom edge of the gorget are four silver and three gold engraved beaver effigies. Hole fitted with purple skin strips at each upper edge. Maker’s mark below each suspension hole and on each beaver.

Necklace1590/283

A necklace of a large oval pendant and six smaller beavers separated by groupings of cylindrical glass beads, red beads with white centres, and red-and-white beads. The pendant and the beavers are strung with hide and wire. The arrangement of the beads between the beavers and between the pendant and the beavers on either side is one red-and-white, one red, four white, one red, one red-and-white. Pendant has an uneven raised edge and a central beaver figure. Above are a few branches, below and to the left of which are maker’s marks.

Pendant1590/251

Convex oval-shaped pendant with protuberances on each side, from which hang flat silver rings. Suspened from bottom centre are two concentric flat silver rings, the larger of which is engraved with a sunburst. Zigzag line sunburst engraved on surface of pendant. Ring at top. Each component has a cartouche. All edges outlined with zigzag engraving.

Crescent-shaped gorget with rolled edge and a hole at each upper edge for suspension. There is a British coat-of-arms engraved on the centre front. Also engraved on the front are the words “ Dieu et mon droit. Honi soit qui mal y pense.” HB is engraved on the back.

Objects strung on a bark cord. Objects include six pieces of animal skin with fur (including one animal leg) each approximately 12 cm. long and one carving of a head. The back of the carving is flat and the top is perforated for string. The carving is made of wood and is rubbed with red ochre. Has a hooked nose, no apparent mouth, and is incised with straight, and curved lines.

HeadbandIe343

A headband, with a marquise shape, of several layers of beaten bark, on the outer surface of which have been sewn yellow-white nassa shells entirely covering the band except for a lozenge of exposed bark 1 cm. wide at the centre of the band. The pattern is a lozenge of eleven rows of shells around this centre. Nearly perpendicular to each side are twenty-five parallel rows of shells. There is another lozenge pattern at each end of the band and a double row of shells around the edge. Fragments of bark twine remain at each end.
