Silk, square, damask textile, machine stitched top and bottom with red thread. The pattern consists of eight, central, white, black haired, bare-footed children playing musical instruments or dancing. The children are wearing sleeveless printed jackets, seven appear to be male and one female.
Silk cloth has at centre twelve different rectangular floral prints: pine branch; cherry blossoms; bamboo and snow; water lily; pomegranate; maple leaves; iris; chrysanthemums; wisteria and bridge; Mount Fuji and plum blossoms; peony; blue nanten bush with red berries. Each design has a red calligraphy mark in a corner. Background is red-brown. Top and bottom hemmed.
Silk, square, damask textile, machine stitched at top and bottom. The pattern consists of two cream bamboo stems and leaves; two birds with brown heads, grey breasts, black wings and tails. One of the birds is sitting on a branch, the other is flying.
Red and black eagle spirit mask that has white fur on the top rim and the eyebrows. White fur 'hair' consists of many small pieces of fur sewn together and then nailed to the top rim and the brow ridge. Dome-like forehead has form line design beginning at the brow on the left and extending diagonally across the forehead to the top rim on the right consisting of two red split u's. Solid diagonal black line on the left of the forehead extends from the side to the top rim. The cut out circular eyes are red surrounded by a black area. The black nose is hooked. Raised cheek ridges. On the left, there are two diagonal lines, one narrow and the other wide, extending from the cheek ridge to the lower rim. At the side on the right, there are two diagonal lines, one wide and the other narrow, extending from the lower rim through the corner of the mouth to the end high on the side rim. Open mouth with twelve white shell teeth, teeth glued on to a leather strip which is nailed to back of mouth opening. Chin is slightly raised. On the reverse, there are two metal 'eyes' screwed in at eye level.
Shawl made of woven red wool with three stripe groupings symmetrically arranged. The largest stripe is centred and has a middle band of geometric motifs flanked by graduated prismatic colours and narrow bands with tiny motifs. The lateral stripe groupings are identical with each having a middle band of geometric motifs flanked by red, orange, yellow and green stripes. The geometric designs include a six-part circle, a rayed diamond, diamonds with triangles appended, a reverse curve and a striated cross.
A semi-circular hat composed of two similar pieces stitched together along the curved edge. Red feathers with the points cut off are inserted between the semi-circles of dark blue bayeta. An orange, braided tape is appliqued to both sides and attached as chin ties to the centre of each side. Three red, blue, green, and orange yarn tassels are attached by braided cords to each end of the semi-circular hat.
Long red stocking cap banded with dark blue. Repeated small scale motifs in white and colours worked against the red and blue bands. Lower edge is scalloped, with two checkered rows above in blue and red and blue and white. At tip is a red yarn tassel. Below the tassel are comb-like bands in blue, green and pink against the red background.
Hamatsa cannibal mask with curved beak and cedar bark hair, is painted blue, white, black and red; both sides are identical; 3 methods used in creating 'hair': (1) a rope-like band around top sides; (2) a short fringe extending upwards from band; (3) folded lengths tied loosely together in 2 places with string, covers centre top, lengths are also secured to sides and base by leather strips passed through drilled holes; portions of 'hair' covered in red and brown paint; black brows, outlined in white, extend from beak to side rim; blue and white almond shaped eye area has extended point at back; red eye socket echoes shape of eye area, black and white pupil; cheek has 2 split u forms and a red tri-pointed groove; curved black beak begins at eye area and ends in a point just past the moveable lower mandible, 2 red split u forms, facing opposite directions, black tapers to a sharp point at white front portion of beak; flaring nostrils extend from corner of mouth to widest part of curve in beak, red and white alternating bands graduate in size along length; final red band has 2 points extending into final white band; red lip band, split u design on upper lip, black and red design on underside of lower lip; string attached to inner mouth by metal 'eyes' and also to a stick at back of mask, stick attached to mask by leather strip passed through four holes in stick, 2 oval holes close to base.
Bag, rectangular, with three dark brown vertical bands each flanked by two narrow stripes on a light brown background. Four yarn lengths are attached at the mouth for closing the sack.
Proscenium arch style curtain composed of 3 equal length panels (parts a-c). All panels are polychrome embroidered satin-finish silk backed with canvas. One panel (b) is hung horizontally with left and right vertical panels (a,c) hanging down each side. The horizontal panel has two dragons face-to-face over a ringed circle. The bottom edge is scalloped and decorated by multi-coloured tassels. The vertical panels are identical, but with the designs reversed. They have a dragon's tail and central 6 tiered pagoda. Other designs are all symbols in Chinese cosmos. The curtains are hung by numerous cloth straps (part d) which are looped through metal brads in the top of each curtain.
