BasketD3.9 a-b

Circular, flat bottomed woven basket (part a) with a flared top lip and a flat lid (part b)--lid has a central knob. Basket sides bulge towards the centre, creating a short, rounded shape. Ringing the centre of the basket and the lid is repeated diamond pattern woven with green, red, purple and yellow palm leaf. Basket and lid are sewn with diagonal lines of white thread.

Elliptical, brown basket with a flat bottom and flared sides. Base is made from an oval-shaped birch bark panel with a white, green and red tulip-like design of porcupine quills in the centre. Two bands of coiled sweet grass with a single band of zigzagging open work between them comprise the sides; coiled sweet grass sides are all stitched with black thread.

Baby CarrierD2.36

Beaded baby carrier, or cradle. Bead colours are dark and light blue, red, yellow, mauve, and green sewn onto a red wool blanket with sections of hide. Vertically along either side, the beadwork pattern consists of chevrons that are red at the centre bordered by yellow and dark blue on a light blue background. Across the top middle, the beadwork pattern consists of a chevron pattern that is pink at the centre bordered by dark blue on a light blue background. Across the middle, the beadwork pattern consists of vertical yellow and dark blue lines on a light blue background. Human hair, ermine, and brass decorations are also on the cradle. Ten tassels of dark brown-black hair are held in place with light and dark blue, pink, and green beads on hide. Brass decorations are vertically placed along either side. The side edges are cut out with holes.

One skin moccasin sewn around the sole, up the back and across the top where the cotton ankle covers are joined. Black velvet ribbon and green satin ribbon around the ankle. Leather thongs, beaded on toe with dark blue and light blue arrow-like-shapes on a white background.

Two identical pieces of hide stitched together and having a beadwork design on one side consisting of mutli-coloured triangles on a white background. Each triangle has a pink diamond-shape at top within with a navy triangle below at each side and outlined with yellow and navy. Five horizontal rectangles of navy are at each end and in between stitched together pieces at the seam.

Cape composed of an arch-shaped black velveteen collar with a floral pattern in orange, yellow, pink, red, silver, blue, black and brown beadwork, a blue beaded edge, and a long beaded fringe in clear and black beads in a lattice pattern with a band of black followed by a band of clear and another band of black and finished with lengths of silver beads. Cotton backing. The cape is in the "Bertha" style.

Bag beaded on the top and the flap. Main geometric design consists of three pairs of diamond shapes across a horizontal yellow and black band on a blue background bordered by yellow triangles. The outer most ends of the diamond shapes are yellow while the inner most ends of the diamond shapes are orange. The flap has a strap and a similar design as the main geometric design; however, it is half of that across the top with a yellow and turquoise band and diamond shapes above that which are turquoise at their outer most ends while they are yellow at their inner most ends. There is a skin fringe across the bottom.
