Conical woven hat that has three equally spaced, vertical bands of green, blue, and natural geometric borders with flowers in the three triangular panels around the lower portion. The beaded flowers have two with six green petals outlined by red with a multiple green leaves metallic coiling stem base while a multiple black leaves metallic coiling stem emanates from above with a red bud at either top end. The rim is green with red string and diagonal red beaded lines around the lower portion. Metallic coillng loops are at the top surrounded by radiating green bead lines. Lined with purple, yellow, and white printed lining.

Circular flaring, bowl-shaped basket. Exterior has intricate white beadwork on orange-brown cloth backing in horizontal, concentric bands of geometric and plant motifs around a central circle of mirror-like material. Lower beadwork is 13 cm. deep with 'extending' beads above, and a pattern of x's, reflective panels outlined by white beads, flat metallic leaf-like shapes with metallic coiling and sequins, diamond shapes that have sequins with metallic coiling within, flat metallic plant motifs with metallic coiling and sequins, diamond shapes that have sequins with metallic coiling within, and reflective panels outlined by white beads at the centre. Upper beadwork is 4 cm. with a pattern of reflective panels outlined by white beads, x's, and 'dangling' beads below. Other colours include faded green, red, and purple.

Cantonese Opera HatN1.807

The folded hat is black and rectangular with a rounded top piece, a back flap and embroidered motifs. The hat has a black centre panel which folds inwards on both sides. Embroidered on the centre panel are pink and orange peonies with green leaves and swirls. These designs are repeated on the inside of both side folds. The rounded top piece has pink and orange peonies with green leaves and yellow swirls. Hanging down from the top piece on either side of the centre panel is a red streamer. On the back, the flap mimics the rounded top piece and extends down past the bottom of the folded centre panel, flaring out at the bottom. In the centre of the flap is a large pink, red, green and yellow peony. Surrounding the flower is a circle of gold scroll designs and pink and orange peonies with green leaves and yellow swirls. On the inside of the hat is ecru lining, stiffened with cardboard. Two ecru ties are attached.

The folded hat is light brown and rectangular with a rounded top piece curling down on either side. The hat has a light brown centre panel which folds inwards on both sides. Embroidered on the centre panel are two pink peonies with green leaves and gold swirls and a pink and red bat. On the inside of both side folds is a red peony with green leaves and gold swirls. The rounded top piece has pink and red peonies with green leaves and gold swirls. The curled ends have a small purple flower and an attached maroon tassel. The designs on the back of the hat mimic those on the front. There are pink and red peonies, green leaves, gold swirls and small purple flowers. On the inside of the hat is ecru lining, stiffened with cardboard. Two ecru ties are attached.

On the back, the flap mimics the rounded top piece and extends down past the bottom of the folded centre panel, flaring out at the bottom. The golden features, with added tusks, are repeated on the top piece of the back flap. Beneath the features in the centre of the flap is a large red symbol. Surrounding the symbol is a circle of pink and purple peonies, yellow scroll designs and green leaves. On the inside of the hat is ecru lining, stiffened with cardboard. Two ecru ties are attached.

Neck RingA6318

Thick ring with layers of shredded cedar bark encased in a covering of finely twisted cedar bark rope laid parallel and sewn together. Additional rectangular sections of the same rope material are sewn to the sides and the top of the ring. Attached to the top section is a carved and painted wooden, triangular tail piece. One side sash has a carved and painted wooden wing piece (the wing on the opposite side has broken off). Carved and painted wooden eagle head and an extra bundle of shredded cedar bark attached to the bottom so that it hangs down.
