Fragment of painted, plain weave cotton. The major motif is a frontal human with crescent shaped headdress. This figure is repeated in diagonally arranged squares. Adjacent diagonally stepped registers contain zigzags. A secondary motif of repeating profile birds occurs in a wide diagonal register between registers with zigzags. The original colours appear to have been red, blue and several shades of brown.
Two rectangular textile fragments of yellow and white slit tapestry with design bands separated by horizontal stripes (part a and b). The major design band, which appears on both fragments, is a series of chevrons with avian-feline(?) composites, triangles and interlocking spirals in adjacent chevrons. Part a, the larger fragment, also has a band of profile birds and another of interlocking spirals. A separately woven fringe is sewn to the warp selvedge. Fragments of blue sewing thread remain on the single weft selvedge.
Two cut fragments (part a and b) of brown cotton weave of approximately the same size. Each rectangular piece has two brocaded composite motifs with bird, serpentine and humanoid characteristics. One edge on each piece has a tubular woven border with fish motifs.
Rectangular piece of plain weave cotton with painted designs. The major figure is a human with two pronged headdress holding a plaque-like object. A profile bird hovers by the figure. Step frets fill adjacent registers. Red background, now very faded, and blue figures are outlined in thick brown lines with interior detailing in white. Parts of one warp and weft selvedge remain. The other edges are cut. The backside of the band is undecorated.
Smoothly finished, rectangular bone balance with two sets of seven punctuated and recessed circles on both of the wide, flat sides. Traces of red pigment remain on one of the end circles. Each of the short, skinny ends has a hole drilled with fragments of fibre twine in them. One hole is drilled through the width of the bar in the very centre. The two other holes are symmetrically placed at the ends and run obliquely from one narrow edge to the adjacent narrow edge.
Two strands of disc-shaped shell beads that range in hue from orange to white. There are 1051 beads threaded on a handspun, white cotton yarn. The ends of the yarn are tied together forming a closed ring with one strand smaller than the other.
Three-dimensional monstrous humanoid puppet: large head (part b) fits into body with long tunic (part a), and a control rod (part c) with a long shaft passes through the body and fits into the neck of the figure's head. The body has jointed arms, each with a long controlling rod attached. Large head, dominated by swollen nose, with large eyes and red irises. Wide toothy mouth with double hooked teeth in each corner and wide, red lips. Whiskers, mouth, ring, ears, brown, and eyes outlined in black. Shoulder length black hair in curls, and a dark green hat. Face two colours, vertically split: pale green on the figure's right, and pink to the figure's left. Arms and hands painted gold, with bracelets and nails red. Hands are flat, with fingers extended. Clothed in full length tunic of six different multicoloured fabrics. Light purple upright collar; top, light blue with red and blue stripes; middle section (and jabot, the oval flap hanging from neck) made from synthetic black fabric with bright green, orange, red and yellow floral print. Jabot decorated with sequins and beads. Lower section of tunic: red, white and green flowers on a dark blue background. Black, red, white diagonal stripes with white dots on reverse. Sleeves are made of light and dark brown sythetic material.
A flat hat of twill-weave straw with natural yellow and yellow-green colours and varnished. Hat is disc shaped with a round hole in the centre and finished with a band of black cloth with two diametrically opposed black cloth loops. Outer circumference is finished with a double rim of split bamboo affixed to the upper side of the hat with split rattan. Two pieces of thin, black cotton, 18 cm. wide, finely pleated and joined together with loose stitches of red and green thread.
"The Raven Dances with Frogs" robe. Hand-woven chilkat style child's robe, shaped like a horizontal rectangle on three sides, with the lower edge curving downward to the centre. Long warp fringes of brown and white yarn along the lower edge tapered to be the longest at the centre, with supplementary fringes of white yarn. Main panel is composed of complex formline design in black, white, yellow, and turquoise, outlined in narrow black and white braids, a wide surround of yellow, another band of braids, and an outer surround in black. Double band of braids of brown and white yarn at each side, ending in four bands of wrapped yarn, two black alternating with two yellow. The main panel has a rectangular human-like face at the centre front, above which are two yellow eye forms containing frog faces. Below the rectangular form are two inverted eye forms, beside which are feet with claws. Above these on each side are two more eye forms in yellow. At the midpoint of each side edge is a rectangular profile human-like face looking inwards towards the centre. Throughout the robe the braid outlining is raised from the finely-woven surface, making it three-dimensional. Only the major designs show on the reverse, not the braids.
Nuxalk style robe with woven designs. The design is like a three panel distributive, without the panels. The designs are red, yellow and black on natural ground. There are three eagle representations and two thunderbird heads in the centre, a human figure(?) near the top edge and killer whale motifs on the sides. The checkered border along the bottom edge is a raven’s tail design. There is a velvet band sewn along the top edge.
