HatNi32 b

Hat made of thirty-one black feathers attached to string by folding the base of the quill and creating a loop for the string. The folded portion is wrapped with yellow and purple yarn. String of feathers fits over crown of hat (Ni32 a).

Shoes984/9 a-b

Pair of rigid black shoes made of smooth-surfaced heavy, stiff leather dyed black with unfinished natural leather soles and small heels nailed on with iron nails. One iron cleat is attached at toe and one at the heel. Row of hand-stitching around outer edge of sole. Shoes are low at sides, higher at back and have upturned toes with a centre seam. Piping in the same colour as the outside around the upper edge. Inside of shoes is brown and part b has a brown insole, while the other is black with the stitching showing.

Dark blue summer kimono made of fabric with a resist dyed white checkered pattern. Kimono assembled with hand-stitching throughout. The pattern consists of alternating vertical and horizontal, white-gray lines in small squares. There is a wide patterned band around the neck and partway down the centre opening. Black summer kimono (着物) made of hand woven kasuri (絣) or ikat textile made from ramie fibre. Cotton fabric interfacing on the shoulder area woven in plain weave. Kimono assembled with hand-stitching throughout. The pattern is linear squares and circles arranged in a checkered design. There is a wide patterned band around the neck and partway down the centre opening. The sleeve panels are short with an opening under the arm. The inside is unlined.

Blue patterned hanten (袢纏, also written as 半天, 袢天, 半纏) with dark blue patchwork. The pattern consists of dark blue dots in horizontal rows. There are dark blue patches on the upper back, shoulders, sleeves and the bottom of the centre opening. There is a small blue square on the left lower front, above the hem. There is a wide dark blue band around the neck and down the centre opening. The short sleeves are tapered. The inside is unlined.

Short, black wool pants with two grey buttons down the front. The legs slightly flare out through the middle then taper in at the ends; the outer edge is longer then the inside. There are three belt loops; two on the front, one on the back. The inside waist and leg cuff seams are edged with a strip of natural coloured wool.

Shoes984/8 a-b

Pair of rigid shoes with thick stiff soles of natural brown leather studded with iron hobnails at the heels and toes, and stitches along the edges. Parallel lines are scored along the length of the soles. Shoes have low sides, but are high at the back of the heels and have upturned toes. There is narrow white leather piping along the edges, and the white leather extended down inside the heel. The sides of the shoes are covered with pink silk, over which are applied pieces of light green silk at the toe and heel. Small fragments of dark pink decorative pieces remain at the toes and heels. There are narrow bands of darker green silk at the top and bottom of the sides, with a row of heavy white stitches along the lower band. The shoes are white inside, and the soles are lines with loose cotton batting.
