DrumD2.73 a-b

Drum (part a) that has a wood frame over which rawhide has been stretched on both faces and sewn with thong on side. Doeskin (chamois) strips sewn together cover drum edge. Faces and border decoration on each side of drum, at least partly with felt pen and stick. The stick is covered in rawhide (part b).

Model version of an Eastern woodlands style canoe. Canoe is made from birch bark lashed to a wooden frame with root lacings. Upper edge of the canoe is rimed with a slender branch that is overcast with strips of root. Black, resinous pitch is used to patch seams and holes in the birch bark.
