Veil1472/6 b

Woman’s dark red and black, tie-dyed, cotton veil; decorated with off-white tie-dyed dots that form geometric, linear and curvilinear patterns. In the centre is a round black medallion within a square, dark red panel; there are black borders on all four sides. The veil is constructed from two nearly-identical sections that are seamed together down the centre with machine stitching.

Rectangular, tie-dyed, dark red and black goat wool textile, decorated with off-white tie-dyed dots. The red central field has a large black circle in the centre and four smaller black circles. There are diamond-shaped clusters of white tie-dyed dots scattered throughout. There are black borders on all sides, embellished with rows of red and white linear and curvilinear designs formed by tie-dyed dots. The textile is constructed from two nearly-identical panels that are seamed together vertically down the centre, using a running stitch sewn with white thread. Woven gray-beige selvages are on the vertical edges, and there are woven cotton horizontal supplemental stripes at each end. A strip of black woven cotton textile (7.1 cm wide) is sewn at one end.

Head Cloth2615/7

Woman’s red tie-dyed head cloth, hand-dyed and hemmed on all sides. Cloth has a green tie-dyed stripe near the two shortest sides. The abstract designs on the main body of the cloth are formed exclusively by orange and flesh coloured globules with red centres. Both floral and bird shapes are prominant in these designs. Black dots appear throughout, as well as a few circular shapes formed from bunched black thread. Inscription in two opposing corners.

Wrap-around Skirt1472/6 a

Woman’s skirt, consisting of a long, rectangular, dark red and black length of tie-dyed cotton textile. A large red central panel is bordered at one selvage edge by a narrow (19 cm wide) black band and at the opposite selvage edge by a wider (41 cm wide) black band. Clusters of white, yellow and red geometric patterns formed by tie-dyed dots are widely scattered throughout.

Wedding Veil1472/2

Woman’s rectangular silk georgette wedding veil. A bright green central field, with over-all yellow dot pattern, has five circular red medallions, one in the centre and one at each corner. These are embellished with yellow and white tie-dyed dots that form circular motifs. There are wide red borders on all sides, embellished with white, yellow and green patterns formed by tie-dyed dots. The surface of the textile is puckered.

Large rectangular piece of thin, muslin-like, tie-dyed cotton. Fabric has been folded in four and entirely covered with closely spaced, knot-like resist ties that penetrate all four layers of folded cotton, giving the material a puckered appearance. The outer border of the fabric has been dyed orange, while the rectangular centre is a deep red. Where resist ties have come undone at one end, a minute dotted motif of white, yellow, and green circles surrounding tiny red or orange centres emerges.
