Shadow puppet depicting male figure with handle that splits just below the feet and extends up the body of the puppet on both sides, to the face. Moveable arms, each with a control rod attached. Linear detail of clothing and face perforated through the skin. Red and green songkok, gold-leaf sumping, red face, long eyes upturned, large nose, thin moustache, black tunic and shoes, green and red sarong. Wrists are flexed.

Pair of flat leather soles (parts a and b). Both have punctured holes on either side of the heels, and one each placed between the toes. Leather thongs are inserted in each hole, cross-knotted on the underside of sole and knotted at the heel.

Shadow PuppetIb271

Humanoid shadow puppet figure with handle extending down from feet and split on either side, attached with string. Skin is perforated to hilight linear detail. Head in profile and body in three-quarter view, standing on one foot with other knee raised. Arms oriented with elbows out and hands held with fingers loosely curled, palms up in front of chest. Head is green, large, and round with upturned eyes. Tusks on top and bottom at outer corner of mouth; one large tusk at front. Mouth is red; tusks white, fleshy nose. Body is tan with black perforated lines marking legs, genitals, protruding stomach.

Shadow PuppetIb323

A two-dimensional male figure puppet with a one-piece wood body carved in low relief. Unpainted wood handle extends below the foot on the left. Leather arms are jointed at the shoulders and the elbows. Wood sticks are attached to the palms to manipulate the arms. Profile body and face are looking to the right. The light red face has a large protruding nose, short hair, moustache, and dark red ring beard. The upper teeth are visible. Wearing a yellow military cap with a black visor, a high-collared yellow uniform, and tasseled epaulette on the left with a light red belt. Pronounced posterior and a long black sword is worn from the hip on the left. The straight legs spread considerably. Red ground is between the black shoes. The hands are bent with a hooked thumb and a protrusion from the finger. Front and back of the figure are identical.

Humanoid figure in three parts: body (part b), head (part b), and single controlling rod (part c). Face flesh coloured, with snout-like nose, small eyes with red irises, black moustache, and small beard. Red lips drawn back, small white teeth visible. Gelung headdress has gold jamang; gold sumping has red upper, lower surfaces, extends behind head; ornaments (sumping) behind ears have horizontal stripes in red, white. Black hair forms bump at back of head. Body unpainted; slender with narrow waist. Arms unpainted, red bracelets; hands at right angle to arms; hand on left resembles paw, hand on right has long fingers, thumb curled under palm. String joining upper arm on right to shoulder; broken. Cord holds arm into coat at elbow. Puppet wears long black fitted coat with white collar. Light brown sarong has medium brown and blue floral batik design, purple stitching; many holes, tear at front hem. Controlling rod unpainted, spear-shaped; fits through body, turns head.

Mask depicting a humanoid face (sanni demon mask), pink with black painted hair as well as black on the end of the nose, and at the jaw. Painted black hair and eyebrows. The mask also has slightly protruding eyes with black rims, and a crescent-shaped hole underneath each eye. White plastic teeth and two outwardly curved fangs emerge from under a fur moustache, and the bottom teeth are attached to a plastic bottom lip, which is sewn to a black knit beard. Reverse has a label, which reads, " 'Bada' stomach sanni"; number "650". A strap, composed partly of twined plant fibre and partly cotton string, is attached at the back.

Dance headdress. Multiple light brown, twisted strands of plant fibre (from an aromatic bulb rubbed with red ochre). The round fringe hangs from a circle of sinew. One section of the strands are shorter and decorated with coloured beads of yellow, red, pink, and light blue.

Three strands of twisted brown sinew with ten pieces of wood of varied length attached by tangled brown leather thongs. Some of the wooden pieces are hollowed and strung like beads, others are merely tied on. The opposite end of the sinews are attached by a leather cord to an incised hollow baton of light-coloured wood through a single hole drilled at its top.

Tall, black, rounded woven basket (part a) with a flat, fitted lid (part b). Bottom made of cut and stripped rattan fibre coiled in a tight weave forming a short round neck which enlarges into an unequal biconical shape, larger at the top than at the bottom. Two wire handles are below the neck and opposite each other; one is wrapped in rattan fibre while the other is not. Bamboo strip at indented base is broken. The lid is a shallow cylindrical shape with rattan fibre coiled into a tight weave. Black patina on surface.
