Pen CaseM4.6

Brass pen case and ink pot. The case is rectangular with a lid at one end, while the pot is square with rounded sides, the two are soldered together. Each are decorated with sectioned geometric designs, mainly circles, scrolls and rope-like lines applied in panels all over the surface. The scrollwork sections were once inlaid with turquoise and coral.

Sake ContainerN2.1329 a-b

Sake container (a) in the shape of a cylinder that tapers towards the bottom with two flaring arms at the top that are joined with a crossbar for a handle. A tapered stopper (b), fits into a hole near the edge of the top. Bands of twisted bamboo, two near the top, and five of differing widths at the bottom, hold the staves of wood together. Stained reddish-brown overall with a Japanese character inside a circle painted on the outside of each arm, and Japanese characters painted around the centre of the base.
