Harpoon HeadA8538

Rounded point backed by a fore-shaft with six pairs of large barbs. Flat, rounded butt is fixed with a moveable iron loop or eye (for attaching retrieval line). Parallel diagonal lines along both faces of this point indicate that it was made from a file.

Dagger type knife with double-edged blade. Composed of a long flat steel blade riveted between a two-piece ivory handle. The sides of the handle arch inwards and the ivory is a dark yellow colour. An arc-shaped ring of metal with a serrated outside edge protrudes from the butt end of the handle.

Harpoon HeadA9096

Large flat leaf-shaped iron blade. Fixed to the blade with compresses of spruce resin are two antler spurs (elk ?) incised with designs of wolf and snake. Also attached, there is a heavy lanyard of twisted sinew (whale or sea-lion) (used to attach head to long line). Engraved with lightning serpent imagery.
