Pink damask skirt (part b) with lace and green trim. The skirt has a narrow waistband and a full, pleated skirt. The damask is woven with a leaf motif. Around the centre are three thin green bands and one band of white lace. Around the bottom are two thin green bands. The inner edge is lined with a white band.

White blouse with embroidery. The blouse has a wide round neck, long cuffed sleeves and full lower half. The upper front, back and cuffs have embroidered floral motifs in orange, red, pink, purple, blue and green on white ground. The front has an added floral and vine motif down the centre. Shirushi banten (印半纏), a type of hanten, also known as happi (法被, 半被) with black designs on white background. Around the neck and part way down the centre opening is a wide black band. The sleeves are short and the ends are edged with a thick black band. The front, back and sleeves have a diamond and stripe pattern. There is a pocket in each side seam. There is a folded black ribbon sewn inside the left sleeve. The inside is unlined.

Small turquoise jacket with gold couched designs. The jacket has a standing collar, side slits and side opening with frog closures and metal buttons. The front, back and sleeves have a chrysanthemum and leaf motif on turquoise ground. The borders around the neck, sleeves, sides and hem have a prunus motif on turquoise ground. The inside lining is pink damask silk with a peony and diamond meander motif.

Dragon RobeN1.59

Blue robe with standing collar, slender sleeves, hoof cuffs and a side opening with brass frog closures. The collar has a geometric pattern on a gold ground. The front, back and sleeves have five-toed dragons, pearl, fire, crane and bat motifs as well as Buddhist symbols of good fortune and Taoist symbols of the Eight Immortals on blue ground. The borders around the neck, cuffs and side opening have dragon, peaches and bat motifs on black ground. The sleeves have triple lined stripes in gold, pink, green and blue. There are slits in the centre front and back. The inside lining is blue damask containing woven roundels with a dragon motif.

Long knife, or sword (part a) and scabbard (part b). Scroll design is on the carved curved handle (part a) which is decorated with black hair and is wound with dark braided fibre. The long, flat metal blade (part a) is straight along the top with a curved edge along the bottom and comes to a pointed tip at the upper end. The scabbard (part b) has a lizard in relief and is decorated with black hair.

Neck RingA4280

Thick woven neck ring consisting of red-dyed cedar bark twisted and braided. Tassels of varying lengths of red string are sewn onto the ring in four places. Ring is oval in shape. There is eagle down intertwined in the weaving.

The tip is coiled with yellow-brown plant fibre, below which, there are the following: four sets of four small barbs; three sets of four increasingly longer barbs; and five sets of four small barbs. The point is decorated with a red and yellow grass sleeve with a horizontal zig zag pattern around a central red diamond shape pattern, a carved band that consists of two figures (each of which has circular eyes, a diamond-shaped nose, and an x-shaped body), and a fibre tuft with string underneath. The entire shaft is covered with a woven black and yellow sleeve with a horizontal zig zag pattern around a central diamond-shaped pattern. Bright red and yellow plant fibre coiling are at either ends of and interspersed throughout the grass sleeves. The dark brown wood shaft is plain and tapers at the end.

Cantonese Opera HatN1.675 b

The folded hat is pink and blue, rectangular and decorated with appliqué and metal-mirrored discs. The hat flares at the top, narrows at the base and folds inwards on both sides. On the front the upper part is blue, the lower part is pink. One the blue part there is a large white circle with an embroidered bird in the centre. Surrounding the circle are tuffs of white rabbit fur. Around the circle are motifs in silver thread. Inside the folded sides are large white circles with goldfish surrounded with tuffs of white rabbit fur. On the back are motifs in silver thread on a pink background. Along the bottom of the hat is a silver border with brass discs, edged with purple with traces of gold. Covering the entire surface of the hat are metal discs with mirrored centres. On the inside of the hat is ecru lining, stiffened with cardboard. Two ecru ties are attached.

There is a wide blue band around the neck and partway down the centre opening. The opening and sleeve edges are edged with blue trim. The sleeves are slightly tapered. The inside is unlined.
