Woman's mantle. Embroidered yellow cape with centre opening, side slits and fringe. The overall motif is various sizes of bouquets in maroon and green on a yellow ground. Around the neck is a band with a diamond motif in maroon, red and green. Edging the centre opening and the hem is a three-prong motif in maroon and green. Two tapered sleeve-like pieces of fabric extend down the back from the shoulders and are joined by a rectangular piece. Black fringes hang from the ends of these and the rectangle. Hanging from the bottom hem is an alternating black and maroon fringe. The inside lining is maroon silk.

Floor-length blue silk cape with embroidered birds and symbols. The cape opens in the front centre and has a slit midway up the back centre. The collar is a short, stand-up collar with several bands of fabric; blue-green, purple, two floral bands and one cream band. Around the collar are larger fabric borders; floral on cream background, black, green and purple on tan background, blue and green on white background. The borders edge the centre opening of the cape and continue along the bottom. The cape is decorated with egret birds, representing a Chinese civic official of the sixth rank. The egret is white with a short tail, green bill and legs. Among the birds are bright, multicoloured clouds and the eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune in couched gold thread. There are two red ties in the front centre of the cape. The inside lining is pink silk.

Feather trimmed cape. Cape has a natural beige background and is decorated with coloured designs, black yarn and feathers. There are rows of rectangular designs filled with cross-hatching in either red/black or red/yellow. There are many pieces of black yarn sewn down at one end with the other end hanging loose. The sides and bottom of the cape have a grey-brown feather fringe. The top of the cape has a black multi-strand fringe. Each top corner has a red and white twisted fibre with an ornamental red tuft.

Feather trimmed cape. Woven from off-white commercial wool yarn with a twined plant fibre weft. The ends of small brown and green feathers have been caught in each twist of the weft in a wide border around the edges. The central panel has several brown feathers inserted in the same fashion. Black yarn alternates with off-white yarn at the short ends, and there is an inner border of green and yellow yarn.

Cape composed of various feathers of brown, white, red, and green in a checkered design on an openwork twining weave. The plant fibre twining is carried in pairs with pitch in opposite directions on a weft of dark brown human hair. The feather ends are caught under the rows of plant fibre twining with the tips protruding downward. A heavy three-strand braid of dark brown hair runs across the top. There is a plant fibre cordage tie at each top corner.

Thunderbird Cape863/2

Cape made of painted cloth and wooden slats in the shape of wings. The upper part of the cape is white cloth with red and black designs with some green detailing. There are four metal rings, two on each side, attached in the middle of the upper edge for fastening the cape. To either side of the rings, the edge is lined with white fur and large black and white feathers are attached. Midway down the white cloth wooden slats are attached and continue down past the end of the cloth. In the centre is a raised wooden oval painted red and black with three red downward barbs. From this centre piece, there are four painted wooden slats extending outwards on each side. The innermost slat is the shortest while the second is close in length to the third and fourth. The slats are painted in black, red and green designs. The underside of the cloth and wooden slats are not decorated.

Long, white cape with sequined designs. The cape has a rounded collar and long white ties at the neck. The edges are lined with yellow, gold sequins and a silver sequined geometric border. Interspersed with the silver border are floral motifs in pink, blue and green sequins. There is a slit at centre back. The inside is lined with white fabric.

The collar has gray stylized peony motifs and black scalloped edges on pink ground. The borders down the centre and along the hem have black diamonds and triangles with a black scalloped edge. The inside lining is white cotton.

Light green cape with embroidery, wide collar and centre opening with frog closures and cotton tie. The collar has butterfly motif in silver on deep turquoise ground. The border has tree peony and chrysanthemum motifs and a silver symbol of distinction on light green ground. The front and back have large peacock, chrysanthemum and tree peony motifs on light green ground. There are mirrors and tin reflectors on the front and back. The inside lining is turquoise damask with a large floral pattern.
