Turner together with Inuit and Innu knowledge. Identified there: "Bear onrament with beads. A beaded bear lip ornament used by the Innu, possibly as a charm, collected by Turner at Ft. Chimo. Turner recorded that the ornament originated from the Little Whale River. He apparently believed that the ornament was made from the skin of a brown bear (Ursus arctos), writing: "These mementos are procured with great difficulty from the hunter who has risked his life in the struggles attending the capture of these beasts, for the barren-ground bear of that region is nto a timid creature like the Black Bear; and unless the hunter is well prepared for the animal he would do well to let it alone" (Turner 1894: 275)."

From card: "Individual hollow ends of bear claws fitted into each other to form small diameter rings. These are used by the natives as charms (collected, 1933)."

From card: "Gift of Edw. Namekus, 1934. Top section of the skull of a young caribou, with hair and beginning horns. It is hung on a tree to honor the caribou."

From card: "Skin with brown hair from beneath the lower jaw of a "silver fox" folded over, red and white beads on edge, with red and purple thread tassels."

From card: "A. Gift of Marion Whiskeyjack, 1934. B. Gift of Alice Jonah, 1934; charm of Hilda Jonah. Parts of navel cord sewn in cloth, and beaded all over outside, one also with loops. These are to keep babies from crying, and "are very rare" objects."

From card: "Gift of Philip Witci & Harriet Whiskeychan 1933-34. Each consists of 8 upper teeth in a section of the top of the mouth. Used as cradle charms."

From card: "Made of black velvet, stuffed with sawdust or shavings, lozenge-shaped, rounded ends, double row of white beads around edge, loops pink beads represent the legs. Braided red cord at nose end. Indian donor had never seen another such beaver charm."
