Drawing3223/34

A drawing on a dark beige coloured bookmark. The front-side of the bookmark is a hand-drawn image of a sperm(?) whale. The whale is horizontally oriented with it's body extending from the left to the right edge of the bookmark. There is a large hollow oval drawn on the whale's upper jaw. To the right of the oval is a creature. Drawn to the right of that is a human hand with an oval and cross in the palm. The pectoral fin is decorated with a shaded circle enclosed by two larger circles, a creature, and a shaded ovoid. A small dorsal fin extends from a rounded hump three-quarters down the whale's body. The whale's tail is undecorated. The reverse-side of the bookmark is machine-printed in blue ink. The bookstore's logo, three squares in a L-shape, is in the bottom left corner. To the right and extending upwards at a shallow angle is the bookstore's name, "hager books;" and the store's commercial information.

Drawing3223/31

A drawing of human skulls on a single-sided piece of paper. The paper is cut at a forty-five degree angle along the top edge; the right edge of the paper is longer than the left edge. The background, hand-drawn in pink ink, is decorated with criss-crossing assemblages of line patterns in varying lengths and thicknesses. Two burgundy lines run vertically down the centre of the paper; between the two lines are small burgundy circles. To the left of the lines are four half human skulls arranged vertically and outlined in burgundy. The eye and nasal cavities are speckled with burgundy dots. The right half of the paper mirrors the left except that the skulls are positioned approximately one centimetre lower than those on the left half of the paper. The reverse-side of the paper is blank.

Drawing3223/29

A lime green killer whale cutout made from a bookmark. The front-side of the cutout is horizontally oriented and is solid lime green with no additional markings. The whale's head is angled upwards, triangular teeth line the mouth, and a circular blowhole is cutout at the base of the head. An arch, crescent, and a long thin hook-shape is cutout from the killer whale's underbelly forming the pectoral fin. The dorsal fin extends upwards from the middle of the killer whale's back and then bends towards the tail. An arch-shape is cutout from each tail fluke. Between the two flukes is a cutout of a diamond-shape. On the reverse-side of the cutout is machine-printed black text and an image of two books stacked on top of each other.

A pencil drawing on a bookmark. The front side is a vertically oriented, hand-drawn image of a killer whale with exaggerated fins. The dorsal fin extends from the middle of the bookmark to the top edge; abstract patterns drawn in red and black ink decorate the interior space of the fin. A stream of air, drawn as black dashes, exits the killer whale's blowhole and encircles the dorsal fin. The whale's eye patch is drawn in green ink, the teeth are in dark red ink, and a dark red arrow extends outward from the whale's mouth. The tail, drawn in red and black ink with black stars, is positioned below the whale's head. The reverse-side of the bookmark is horizontally oriented and is machine-printed. There is an image of a cartoon lion, wearing red shorts with the word "READ," running while reading a book. The background is a light green colour.

A drawing on a blue coloured bookmark. The front-side is vertically oriented and is hand-drawn in pencil. The central drawing is a single killer whale with its mouth open; triangular teeth line both the upper and lower jaw. A blowhole at the back of the whale's head releases a stream of air. The body of the killer whale is formed of a pectoral flipper, a dorsal fin, and a tail. The pectoral fin is embellished with two unshaded tower-shapes. The dorsal fin is decorated with an elongated diamond, an oval with two intersecting lines, and two arches with a stripe patterns. The tail two tail flukes are symmetrical; between the flukes is a large unshaded oval with an elongated diamond inside. The reverse-side of the bookmark is machine-printed. Commercial information, including the bookstore's name, "The Phoenix Used and Rare Books," is printed in black ink.

Drawing3223/11

A drawing and a poem on a piece of white scrap paper. The paper and drawing are both vertically oriented. At the top of the paper, "Our Ancestors are always with us," is printed by hand in pink ink. Positioned below in the centre of the page is a human skull with two fins extending outwards from the skull. The skull and the two fins are decorated with criss-crossing assemblages of blue lines of varying lengths and thicknesses. Pink dots line the edge of the skull's circular eye sockets. The right eye socket is an unconnected circle; pink dots extend from the eye socket to form four swirling lines of varying heights in the white space outside the skull. The left fin extends out of the top of the skull; the interior is decorated with a wide pink arch filled with pink dots and a short yellow line, and a pink dotted ovoid. The right fin is drawn extending inversely from the jaw of the skull; the interior is decorated with a wide pink arch filled with pink dots, and a pink circular ovoid. Below the drawing, the lines "No Matter where we are; who we are with; what we do; what time it is; No Matter," are printed in pink ink. In the bottom right corner is the artist's signature, a "M" with a line through it and two dots. On the reverse-side, three hill-like shapes in pencil extend from the left edge of the page.

A pencil drawing on a paper fragrance advertisement. The front-side is a hand-drawn image of a sea lion(?) set against a white background. The sea lion is horizontally oriented on the paper; the head is positioned at the right edge of the page where the corners are squared, and the tail is drawn towards the left edge where the paper is rounded. Its teeth are bared, the eye is drawn inside an elongated diamond-shape, and small arches, drawn below and to the right of the eye, are shaded in with pencil. The side of the body is decorated with criss-crossing assemblages of grey lines in varying lengths and thicknesses. The right fore flipper is unshaded and is embellished with an ovoid, a shaded arch, a shaded tower-shape, and a crescent. The underbelly and back of the sea lion are outlined in pencil but remain white. A human skull is drawn at the base of the sea lion's body, below the tail. Four horizontal lines give definition to the hind flippers. A circle filled with foliage designs is imprinted to the left of the drawing where the left edge of the page is rounded; this is visible on both the front and reverse-side of the paper. The reverse-side of the paper is machine printed. The right edge of the paper is lined with a gold border. To the left, gold text encircles an image of a lion standing on a crown. In the centre of the page, "Doulton" is printed horizontally in black ink. The circular foliage imprint is located at the left edge.

A drawing on a piece of paper. The front-side of the paper depicts a hand-drawn, vertically oriented image of a lightning serpent(?) with bared teeth. Yellow stars, of varying sizes, decorate the off-white background of the drawing. The serpent is outlined in grey and yellow pencil crayon; the backside of the serpent is lined with grey hair(?). The body is shaded in with green pencil crayon and decorated with blue, red, and yellow details. A blue snake-like creature extends from the serpent's nose; to the right is a red projection decorated with an elongated diamond-shape. Three tufts, outlined in grey and green, are drawn at the base of the serpent's head. Beneath its jaw is a human-like face with bared teeth; the forehead, nose and chin are coloured red, the brow is dark grey, and the area surrounding the eye is blue. In the bottom right corner is the artist's signature, a "M" with a line through it and two dots. The reverse-side is blank except for machine-printed blue lines running vertically down the page.
