Feather fan with bark handle decorated with quillwork. The fan is circular with white feathers in the center and light blue, dyed feathers on the edges. A small bird body with brown and white feathers is affixed to the center.

Osage name by curator Stewart Culin may not be accurate. Fan is made from the tail feathers of a winter hawk. Large hawks have 12 feathers; small hawks have 10 feathers in tail. According to Sean Standing Bear 10/20/2000 this fan is missing its center feather. The handle is woven with dyed porcupine quillwork with a row of blue and white beads along each edge.

This fan has a hide handle that has each side beaded differently from the other, one side blue, green, red and white beads, the reverse side red, blue and white. Both sides have a cross in the design. A hide thong is dyed green and tied to one side of the handle. Small eagle feathers are arranged in front of larger eagle feathers and tucked into the fan handle hide.

Feather fan with beaded handle. Long brown and shorter red feathers are imbedded into one side of a bow-tie shaped handle (wood ?) completely covered with beaded red and beige striped fabric that has a design on a white bead ground of diamonds and triangles in green, blue, yellow, and orange on one side and facing chevrons in blue and yellow on the other. At the other end of the handle are attached long fabric cords around which are coiled strings of white beads, with brass beads and skin fringe tassels at the ends.
