Mask3522/32

Wooden humanoid mask with a small face that tapers at the chin. Mask has a rounded brow with a prominent ridge through the centre; slit-like eyes below brow. An orange-red band is painted across the eyes; circles indented around band and filled in with white pigment. Open mouth protrudes outward, from in between cheeks carved in high relief, with seven silver-coloured teeth embedded along the bottom edge of the top lip. Chin is pointed. Mask has holes for eyes and a hollow interior.

Small wooden humanoid mask with a plant fibre beard. Mask has a rounded brow with incised eyes underneath. Orange-red pigment, shaped like an oval, decorates the forehead; rest of mask is covered in brown pigment. "V"-shaped pieces of metal are embedded in each cheek; wide nose in between. Open mouth has protruding lips; four silver-coloured teeth embedded along bottom edge of top lip. Cotton headband is attached to top edge of mask; decorated with cowrie shells and a tooth. Mask has a flat back; small loop attached to top.

Ram Mask3416/1

Wooden painted mask of a ram. Thin, tapering face with O-shaped mouth, long ears and curling horns. Semi-circle design on top centre of head, painted a dark black-brown. Circle is decorated with diagonal and vertical incisions. Two columns of squares carved in low relief down centre of semi-circle. Two thin columns of rectangles, carved in low relief, run down centre of face, in between the eyes. Eyes are narrow and vertical, with raised edges. Done in white. Face is painted dark maroon. Horns are done in dark brown-black with the curled ends made of sheep horn, painted white. Ears of ram, hanging down between the face and horns, flare outwards from the face and are made of sheep horn, painted white. Two oval-shaped nostrils are above the mouth, with raised edges. Areas around eyes, mouth, nostrils and entirety of horns are painted dark brown-black and have incised decorations across them. Mask has small hole for mouth. The back rim of the mask is unpainted and has two holes along the top for ties.

Wooden humanoid mask with dark brown-red cord attached to the top, imitating hair. Head is thin and rectangular, painted black, with two pronounced eyebrows, outlined in light yellow. Eyes below are thin, oval-shaped, and outlined in red and light yellow paint. Face has a sharp hooked nose above an open, puckered mouth, painted red. Nose and curves of the cheeks are highlighted with light yellow paint. Formline motifs around the mouth and on the cheeks. Done in red and light yellow. Back of mask is hollowed out. Holes in mask for eyes and mouth. String and nails are attached to interior for hanging.

Wooden painted mask of the minister character. Humanoid face with wide eyes and nose and cropped hair. Mask has hair carved along the top edge, painted black. Teardrop-shaped ornament in centre of forehead, in between the eyes. Ornament is painted gold and has raised circular motifs across it. Pieces of skin with black hairs nailed above eyes, as eyebrows, and above smiling dark red mouth, as a moustache. White shells(?) are inlaid in the mouth, as teeth. Face is painted a light orange-brown. Eyes are grey and black, rimmed in black, grey and dark red. Mask has holes for eyes and nose. Holes drilled into either side of mask with rubber band attached for hanging. Ink inscription inside of mask.

Face is painted black, eyes are white with large black pupils, and mouth is dark red. Four white, square teeth in mouth. Holes in mask for eyes and mouth. Holes drilled into either side of mask, with fibre strand knotted through for hanging. Inscription carved inside mask.

Wooden painted mask of the character Rahwana. Humanoid face with bulging eyes, a protruding nose and two fang-like teeth. Red and black scalloped headdress on top of mask. Central scallop is light blue and has three triangular protrusions in front of it, painted gold. Abstract designs along the bottom of the dark red scallops, done in blue, red, green and yellow. Stylized linear motifs across all of headdress, some resembling flames, done in white and black. Curved triangles along top of headdress, in front of the scallops, painted gold. Red, blue and green circles painted across curved triangles. Gold horn-like shapes on either side of headdress. Long, oval-shaped protrusions on sides of face. They are painted black and have white curves and lines painted on them, imitating facial hair. Similar designs around the mask’s brows, mouth and chin. Mouth is open and has large white teeth along the top edge, with a fang-like tooth on either side. Mouth painted dark red, gums and tongue are pink. Face is painted dark teal, and eyes are orange and yellow, rimmed in red. Mask has holes for eyes, nose and mouth. String ties nailed onto back of mask. Ink inscription inside of mask.

Wooden humanoid mask. Head is thin with a pronounced brow, painted black, which comes to a low point at front between the eyes. Eyes are thin, oval-shaped and outlined in red and black paint. The face has a flat hooked nose above an open, puckered mouth, painted red. Nose has a black line painted down the middle, with black also around the nostrils. Cheeks, chin and top of mask are painted black. Only unpainted surfaces are around the mouth and eyes. Back of mask is hollowed out. Holes in mask for eyes, nose and mouth. Cord and metal hooks are attached to interior for hanging.
