Cantonese Opera Robe2967/38

Cantonese opera scholar’s robe made of light blue fabric front and back, lined inside with white cotton. The left side of the robe crosses over the front, to attach with a tie under the right arm, creating a shallow V-neck. The sleeves are indented slightly at the under-arm, then widen and remain thus from shoulder to cuff. Long white panels of the same width are attached at each cuff. The robe is decorated with sequins in a pattern of leaves, branches and flowers front and back and on arms. Gold and silver sequins border the robe edges.

Cantonese Opera Robe2967/27

Man’s opera costume robe. Robe is long with full sleeves, and short sleeve extensions in light tan at each cuff. The left front of the robe extends over the right and ties under the arm on the right seam. The yellow body of the robe is covered in triangular and pointed forms made of gold and silver sequins. The neck, each cuff and the bottom and side edging are elaborately decorated in brown and silver sequins in patterns of flowers and leaves. The interior of the robe is a light tan cotton.
