Sandal made from twisted, woven sagebrush bark, with woven sole and 'upper,' and a series of loop laces. Sandal found in Silver Lake Cave I, Fort Rock, Oregon at entrance to cave. In its original state, sandal was caked with mud - was since cleaned by Bergen. Associated fragments: Accn. #341, Cat. #1-31226 and one box of fragments with no catalog number. A. Brown leather sandals (parts a-b) with a wide strap across the toes, back and two on the front. The top has a floral decoration with red and green velvet underlay. There are two buckle fastenings on the side. Slight tooling around the edges of the sole. The soles are nailed. Pressed into the sole is a circular stamp reading ‘Mexico’.

Brown sandals (part a-b) with thick and thin straps. There is one thick strap across the sole. There are four thin straps, two from each side of the sole, that are woven together near the front of the sole to form a toe thong. There is an extra layer to the bottom back of the sole, giving the sandal a slight heel. The top of the sole has an indented border with small slits through which material is threaded to bind the sandal together.
