On the underside are approximately fifty-nine raised characters in seal style. The surface of the bronze is a rough, uneven brown and black colour.

Raised characters on the underside are written in square stylized form; remains of ink around characters. Bronze has a smooth finish and a dark brown patina. Hole perforated through body of elephant for cord, now missing.
