Pink robe with slender sleeves, side slits, side opening and angled neck. On the front, back and sleeves are bird, butterfly, lotus, peony and chrysanthemum motifs in silver, pink, yellow, green, blue and white on pink ground. The collar band has prunus and lotus motifs in silver on a blue ground. The sleeve and border bands have peony and hsi (double joy) motifs in silver on pink ground. There are green glass eyes, tin reflectors and fur on the front, back and sleeves. The inside lining is yellow linen.

Cantonese Opera JacketN1.666

Dark purple jacket with rounded neck, wide sleeves and centre opening with brass frog closures. There are slits in the sides and back. On the front, back and sleeves are dragon, cloud and tree peony motifs in gold, pink, orange and yellow on dark purple ground. The borders around the sleeves and bottom hem have ju-i head scrolls with bat and shou motifs in gold and pink on a blue ground. There are mirrors and green glass eyes on the front, back and sleeves. The inside lining is yellow linen.

Cantonese Opera ArmourN1.661 a

Blue armour robe with slender sleeves and a side opening with brass frog fasteners. Below the waist, the armour divides into one front panel and two back panels. On the front are Fu dog, fish, bat, peony and lotus motifs in gold, pink, purple, green, red, blue and yellow on a white ground. The collar band has a lotus motif in pink. The sleeves have butterfly, peony and lotus motifs in gold, yellow, pink , purple, green and blue. The back has dragon-fish, peony and lotus motifs in gold, pink, purple, green, red, white, orange and yellow. The front panel is stiffened with paste adhesive. The inside lining is natural coloured linen.

Large, red, baluster-shaped vase with three panels of figures (a). One scene is of a battle between horsemen. Another is of an emperor resting in his palace balcony flanked by servants. Last scene is of emperor and courtiers in a landscape setting. The whole vase is decorated with designs of cicadae key designs, scrolls and arabesques. All in relief on red lacquer. Vase rests on circular wooden stand with five feet (b).
