UrnN2.1047 a-b

Two piece urn, with body (part a) and lid (part b). Made in a style called goten-gata zushigame (御殿型厨子甕), an urn in the form of a palace. On the front are two Buddhist figures, each in the centre of a lotus, in relief, in turquoise on a dark brown ground. On the top of the lid, are two three-dimensional shachihoko (鯱鉾/鯱), a mythical sea creature with the head of a tiger or dragon and the body of a fish. On the front is an epitaph, called migachi or miigachi (ミガチ/ミーガチ/銘書) in Okinawan. There is another migachi under the lid.

Part a: Folded shin guard that tapers slightly at one side, is rounded at the top, and five brass fasteners on each side. Part b: Shin guard that has been folded out. Has scalloped edge at the bottom and a rounded edge at the top. Has five brass fasteners on each side. Both are plain black with ties.

Dark blue kimono with tapered sleeves and a white pattern. The pattern is a diamond design with white dots on a dark blue ground. The pattern is hand stitched. Around the neck and part way down centre opening is a wide dark blue band. There are short ties on the band. The inside is unlined.

E-sugoroku game. Rectangular sheet of paper covered with a woodblock printed scene that shows firemen, known as hikeshi (火消し), on ladders in acrobatic positions on the upper portion, with a crowd of men gathered together observing them in the lower portion. Predominant colours are blue, green, black and brown on an off-white background.
