RED: A Haida Manga3418/1 a-r

Haida manga watercolour and ink painting. The painting is comprised of 18 separate, multi-coloured, story panels. Each panel shows several scenes in the story, in order, starting at the upper left corner. When all the panels are hung together in a rectangular configuration (6 panels wide x 3 high) they also form a larger image, united by a thick, black, painted line. (From the upper left corner of the image, l-r: parts a-f; middle row, l-r: parts g-l; lower row, l-r: parts m-r.) The artist signed each panel on the back and sketched out where it fits in the configuration.

Sacred Weave3403/2

Woodblock print on square, off-white paper. Close up of six dark red strands, outlined in black, woven together. Ten white, abstract designs on red strands. Designs are (from left to right, top to bottom): seven pointed star, figure inside of a circle outline, sun, four angular fish, pale yellow circle with lines curving out from it, three arrows overtop of a solid circle, large swirl, two wavy lines, circle with branch-like designs running through it, and half of a bird-like figure. Embossed leaf on a square in the bottom right corner of paper. Beneath the design are the edition number, 33/50, title, artist signature and year. All are handwritten in pencil. "43" and date are written upside on back of print, in the top right corner. Both handwritten in pencil.

Large rectangular ikat weaving in beige and dark blue on an orange-red background, with symmetrical mirror image containing patterns of large humanoid figures and abstract designs on either side of a dark black-blue patterned band at centre. Band of alternating beige, yellow and light brown stripes with checkerboard at ends, and faded taupe with areas of dark blue fringe. Seam down centre of length.

Twine neck ornament composed of four lengths of twine that have been knotted to create designs - each design composed of two groups of two strands of twine, knotted together to create an infinity design at centre, with a square knot on either side, bringing the four strands back together.

Joss paper hat-style offering. Circular frame composed of stiff paper, with a tent-like section folded down at centre. The paper has a bold pattern of black hexagons with white flowers within, and a bright blue in the space between hexagons. There is a half-circle gold-coloured imitation foil decoration on one face of the hat.
