Wooden carving of Rama and Sita (from the Hindu epic the Ramayana). Sita is shown partially sitting in Rama’s lap, turning torso and head to look back at him. Both wear elaborate winged headdresses and embellished clothing with pointed shoulder decoration. The pair kneels on a base of wood carved as natural scenery, rocks, and the suggestion of mountains. The back of the sculpture is carved with less depth than the front and sides, and has fewer embellishments.
Jade carving of goddess Bodhisattva standing on a dragon. The figure is swathed in flowing robes and headdress, right hand open at heart, left extended to the front. The fingers are very delicately carved. The dragon rests in a crouch, facing forward. The tail is curled upwards. Its surface is covered in small, delicately carved scales. The goddess stands on a shell covering the dragon’s back. The jade is buffed to a high shine. The carving is attached to a low wooden stand.
Dark blue porcelain vase. A tall vase with a gold rimmed lip, short neck, and flaring round shoulder that narrows through the body to a small base. The exterior is a shiny dark blue; the interior and bottom are white. A gold seal is shown on the exterior just below the shoulder.
Small round basket with imbricated decoration. Basket is wide at middle, inclining to a smaller base and mouth. Coil construction is tight, with a tight, even redbud root wrapping. The imbricated decoration is in large triangle and square motifs, six in all. Thin, short, imbricated lines decorate the shoulder just under the rim.
Round basket with imbricated decoration. Basket is wide at middle, inclining to a smaller base and mouth. Construction is a small, tight coil with tight, even redbud root wrapping. The imbricated decoration is in double lines of triangles, brown and red brown, that zigzag across the basket’s surface, inside and out.
