Scarf3305/15

Brown woolen scarf with multi-coloured designs. Has twisted fringe on left and right sides. Both edges have geometric borders done in orange, dark blue, dark green, white and maroon. Designs woven along entire scarf in repeating rows of three and four. Patterns done in white, light red, orange, dark blue, dark red, light green and maroon. Designs are mix of flowers, diamonds, butterfly-like shapes, star-like shapes and X’s.

Thin striped belt with twisted fringe on either side. Belt is dark blue with wide dark green stripe down the middle, trimmed on the top and bottom with dark red stripes. Fringe on left is three strands and fringe on right is a single strand.

Long, thin belt with fringe on either side. Belt has wide indigo stripe down middle. Above central stripe are thin light blue, white, pink, red, indigo, orange, yellow, light green and black stripes. Same thin stripe pattern mirrored below central stripe. Left edge of belt bordered with pink braided thread that joins fringe on side. Right edge of belt, on back, has a black loop.

Boots3305/2 a-b

Pair of men’s calf length boots with slits along upper back. Calf portion of boots made of maroon silk with vine-like designs and characters embroidered throughout. Back slits and top edges of boots trimmed with dark blue, black and yellow plaid fabric. Red silk band around ankles with flowers and feathers embroidered in black and gold. Red silk extends upwards along front and back seams. These sections have characters and flowers embroidered in gold and light blue. Front red silk seam has gold and blue stripes down centre. Back red silk seam has orange stripe down centre. All red silk sections trimmed with yellow and blue stripes. Foot portion of boots covered with white material and have dark brown leather(?) appliques around heels and toes. Dark green and white fabric layers between boot and black leather(?) soles. Boot interiors have dark red-purple lining.

Long sleeved, man's off-white cotton shirt. Shirt is open with short, standing collar and overlapping lapels. Sleeve cuffs extend from wrists to elbows. Cuffs, collar and lapels have interior cotton lining. Shirt front is shorter than the back and the lapels extend slightly past the edge of the shirt.

Done in dark green, maroon, dark yellow, neon orange, light green, sky blue, dark blue, dark orange and pale yellow.

Staff3326/19 a-c

Large staff built on a wood armature with an iron blade (part a) and phallic handle (part b) with loose coiled metal (part c). The wooden hilt is studded, wrapped in iron with iron cap. The blade tapers in towards the tip. Towards the top there is a small square cutout with a cross etched on each side. Above and below, the thin area is wrapped in iron. The blade itself is also etched with various designs, however the metal is rusted.

Staff or dance wand. Wooden carving depicting a male figure standing next to a sacrificial ram. The figure holds a double axe in his right hand. His elongated head sits at an angle on his short neck. He has large almond eyes, and six horizontal lines on each cheek. Extending up from his head is a large ornate double axe-shaped headdress that curves down to points on each side. The figures stand on a square platform with carved diagonal lines around the sides and a plain cylindrical handle beneath.

Fertility Figure3326/23

Fertility figure (akuaba) with a flat, disc-shaped head sitting on a long cylindrical neck that slightly curves forward. The lower rounded portion of the face has small horizontal oval eyes with a slit across the middle, two horizontal lines on each cheek, and a small smiling mouth. The raised oval forehead extends down into a long vertical nose and arched brow ridge. The upper edge has a raised arch. The abstract conical arms mimic the shape of the small pointed breasts. The lower half of the body is cylindrical, with an inward bend on the lower back, ending with an anvil-shaped base.

Helmet Mask3326/10

Dance mask composed of tightly woven plant fibres. The mask has a conical top that extends down completely covering the face. Five square holes woven in for the eyes, ears and mouth. The edges are wrapped with strips of fibre. A length of unwoven fibres extend from the top point. The exterior of the mask is completely covered with strings of abrus seeds. Hanging from the bottom edge around the entire mask are fifteen strings of abrus seeds with a tuft of cotton, and seven more smaller strings and smaller tufts hang across the mouth.
